Calvin pointed at Ashton and snarled, “Your medical ability means absolutely nothing, compared to Dr. Donahue’s mentor! You have no right to act arrogantly now that Dr. Donahue and his mentor are in the picture. You can forget about holding Mrs. Sloan hostage with her stomach condition ever again!

“Your paltry medical skills are beneath Dr. Donahue’s contempt, Ashton! Get out of here now!”

Calvin turned and looked at Christian. When Calvin saw Christian’s intensely grim, somber expression, he misjudged it as fury at Ashton.

He looked at Christian eagerly, saying, “Ashton is truly insolent and conceited, using his minimal medical skills to threaten people, Dr. Donahue!

“You should gather your peers to professionally blacklist him from the medical field, destroy his reputation, and let him live in eternal disgrace!”

He was certain that with the immense authority and resources Christian held, destroying Ashton would require no more than a simple command. Ashton had brought this demise upon himself, delivering himself right into their hands.

In that instant, at the peak of Calvin’s arrogance, Christian exploded with fury, his temples throbbing violently. He delivered a resounding slap to Calvin’s cheek, sending Calvin flying six feet away.

Christian’s sudden violence stunned all onlookers. They exchanged bewildered glances, not understanding what had happened. Roxy and the others, in particular, were utterly dumbfounded.

Didn’t Calvin bring Christian over? Didn’t Christian have a long–time relationship with Emerson Group? Why, then, did Christian lash out and assault Calvin in such a fury?

“W–What’s going on here, Dr. Donahue? Did I say something wrong? W–Why would you hit me?”

Calvin’s face throbbed with pain, feeling utterly stripped of dignity.

He had been slapped yet again in front of Ashton and Roxy. He could no longer keep track of how many times he had been publicly disgraced. He was on the verge of hysteria, the indignity reaching its peak.

“You actually still have the guts to ask that question, huh? You’ve insulted my mentor! I should fight you to the bitter end as his nominal mentee! If it weren’t for your father, your remarks would have merited far more than a single slap!” Christian yelled, his face flushing in fury.

He had only recently been accepted as Ashton’s nominal mentee and had yet to demonstrate his worth when this terrible situation arose.

He knew if he failed to make a stand and offer Ashton a convincing display of loyalty, he would forfeit his chance to be fully accepted as a full–fledged mentee and learn the coveted Ninefold Arcane Technique.

Calvin stared in confusion, feeling increasingly aggrieved. “There has to be a misunderstanding, Dr. Donahue. Did I ever insult your mentor? I only feel admiration for your mentor; I would never disrespect him! You must have misunderstood the whole situation, Dr. Donahue!”

Robert chimed in, saying, “That’s right, Dr. Donahue. Ashton is obviously the one who showed contempt for your mentor. He is the one who deserved your wrath!”
