Chapter 217
If something really happened to Damian during Aurle Night, being the most distinguished family in Javonbury, the Paynes would surely stop at nothing to exact vengeance.
Considering their influence and power, it would be tough to jeopardize their position, even if Ashton had the Legion to back him up.
Given the present situation, there was no reason to turn this into a deadly feud with the Paynes.
As long as Damian was unharmed, everything that happened tonight would simply be a clash between two young men. The older generation of the Paynes wouldn’t have to get involved themselves.
“Let’s just forget about it, Ashton. I think Mr. Payne has learned his lesson,” Sylvia urged as well.
Damian himself was no cause for concern. The real trouble was the Payne family standing behind him, for they possessed a powerful network of connections.
Ashton thought about it for a moment before nodding and slowly releasing Damian’s throat.
After all, Auric Night was the most important business gathering organized by the Gale Assembly. He should show Cadence some courtesy. He didn’t need to kill Damian tonight anyhow.
Tossing Damian aside, he snapped, “Get lost!”
Damian’s bloodied body flew through the air before crashing to the floor. He howled in pain as even more of his ribs broke.
“If you ever dare set your sights on my woman again, you won’t be walking away with a simple lesson like the one you got tonight. The next time you do it, you’ll be losing your head,” Ashton threatened icily.
“Are you alright, Mr. Payne?” Chandler quickly helped Damian to his feet.
“Do I look alright to you?” Damian retorted.
After struggling back onto his feet, he took one last look at Ashton, his eyes filled with both hatred and fear.
“Let’s go!”
He didn’t want to stick around any longer.
In a flash, the fearsome Damian ended up slinking away with his tail between his legs.
The crowd broke into an uproar. No one expected this year’s Auric Night to be this eventful. Who would’ve thought that Damian would end up getting humiliated and squashed like a bug?
Everyone began staring at Ashton with a deep sense of respect.
“You’re amazing, Ashton!” Sylvia exclaimed as she pressed herself against him, her eyes filled with reverence and devotion.
“Let’s go,” Ashton said.
He wasn’t keen on sticking around at the event any longer. There was one other important task he had to

complete tonight. He wanted to make Natalle, that proud woman, his tonight!
Based on his calculations, the person behind the plot to use parasitic arts on Natalie would be making a move on her tonight.
Thus, as everyone looked on, Ashton and Sylvia walked out of the hotel like a match made in heaven after making a legendary mark for themselves at Auric Night.
“I never realized how Ashton was before this. He’s so manly–the manliest guy I’ve ever seen. How I wish I could touch his abs.”
“Stop dreaming. Only someone as beautiful as Sylvia is worthy of a man like him!”
“Hahaha! Wasn’t he Roxy’s husband before this?”
The women gathered together and gossiped away.
Meanwhile, Roxy and the other Sloans were incredibly vexed as they listened to the high–society women lavish their praise on Ashton.
All along, they were sure that Ashton would become a nobody after leaving the Sloans. He would never be able to make something of himself again and would be forced to live in their shadow forever.
But now…
At least, for tonight, they were the ones who had to look up to him in awe.
“What’s the big deal! He’s just banking on someone else’s power… At the end of the day, he’s not the capable one!” Tanya snapped through gritted teeth.
She’d rather die than admit that Ashton was a capable and formidable man.
As it was, she’d always urged Roxy to divorce Ashton. If she conceded that he was a capable guy now, it would mean she was admitting she had made a mistake and ruined the marriage that had been very beneficial to Roxy.
