“Spit it out,” Ashton said impatiently.

Calvin smirked. He pictured Ashton’s cocky face and snorted. “Roxy is in my hands right now. If you don’t want her tortured and humiliated, come alone to Orchid Pavilion Resort! If you dare call the cops, I’ll kill her on the spot! You’ll never see her again for the rest of your life!”

With that, Calvin waited to hear Ashton’s panicked reply. But after a few seconds of silence, all he got was a calm response. “Go ahead. Kill her.”

“What did you say?” Calvin was in disbelief.

He put the phone on speaker and snapped, “Roxy is right here with me–repeat what you just said! Aren’t you afraid she’ll be violated to the point of wishing she were dead? I’m telling you, I’m capable of anything!”

“I said, go ahead and kill her.” Ashton sounded indifferent. She and I are already divorced. Her life or death has nothing to do with me.”

Roxy’s face went pale at those words. A tidal wave of fury crashed over her, making her chest hurt. She never imagined the man who’d once been utterly devoted to her would say something so heartless.

Were those vows and promises from back then all lies? How could a man’s heart change so quickly?

“Are you out of your mind, Ashton? Didn’t you use to love Roxy with all your heart? Do you really think I wouldn’t dare do anything to her? I guarantee you’ll never see her again if you don’t come to Orchid Pavilion Resort!” Calvin’s expression turned vicious.

The point of his and Edmund’s plan was to use Roxy to lure Ashton into their trap. But if Ashton didn’t care about Roxy anymore… Wouldn’t that blow the whole plan?

If they failed to kill him that night, they would face his wrath and retaliation. It was something that might not survive!

“You said it yourself–I used to love her. Now, she and I are no more than strangers. Besides, I warned her to be careful of scum like you. If she walked right into your trap, that’s on her. She only has herself to blame,” Ashton said coolly.

He had neither the responsibility nor the obligation to save Roxy.

“What’s going on? Didn’t you guarantee you’d make Ashton come to his death?” Edmund demanded, the veins on his forehead bulging.

He’d taken a huge risk that night. He would never have done this if not for revenge against Ashton!

“Calm down, Mr. Vance.” Calvin wiped the sweat that beaded on his forehead. “I never thought you’d be this heartless, Ashton. Maybe you don’t care about Roxy, but what about Renee? She’s on good terms with you, right? Does her life mean nothing to you, too?”

“Renee is also with you?” Ashton’s voice sharpened, a clear edge of killing intent in it.

Sensing the concern and tension in Ashton’s voice, Calvin exhaled in relief. “That’s right! Both Roxy and Renee are in my hands. If you don’t come to Orchid Pavilion Resort right now, I can’t promise what’ll happen next. Might be that tonight, a spicy little video of these two sisters goes viral across Javonbury…”

“Ashton, don’t come! It’s a trap!” Renee suddenly cried out her voice breaking with tears.

“Ashton, call the police! Now!” Roxy ordered coldly.
