Before Lupus could finish speaking, Ashton’s crushing energy blew his body apart, like the brightest fireworks exploding in the night.
Scarlet blood sprayed through the air. Through the drifting mist of blood, Ashton kept charging toward Renee’s location.
“What the hell? Mr. Vance, didn’t you say you hired assassins from the Shadowed Nocturnals? Aren’t they supposed to be unstoppable? Why is Ashton still alive and coming straight for us?”
Calvin, who’d looked wild and thrilled just moments ago, was now breaking out in a cold sweat as he watched the surveillance feed. He started trembling when he saw Ashton’s emotionless eyes that gleamed with murderous intent.
“How would I know the Shadowed Nocturnals‘ assassins were this useless? They swore they’d finish the job!”
Edmund’s forehead was also covered in sweat. He’d felt Ashton’s rage up close and knew there was a real chance he would kill someone if he snapped.
“What do we do now? Ashton seems to know exactly where we are. I can already feel his presence!”
Calvin’s legs were shaking. He had a primal fear of Ashton.
“Quit panicking! I set up a gas chamber–he has to pass through it to get here. There’s no way he’ll reach us alive! 11 Edmund’s face twisted with menace.
“You guys have no idea how powerful Ashton is!” Renee looked proud when she saw how frantic Calvin and Edmund were.
She recalled the day she confessed to Ashton and glanced at Roxy out of the corner of her eye, her thoughts suddenly running wild.
Roxy frowned. She’d always known Ashton could fight, but she hated his violent, kill–or–be–killed lifestyle. That was why she’d always looked down on him. Even now, she believed brute force wasn’t the right path.
Ashton picked up speed. All he had to do was get through the door ahead to reach Renee. Soon, however, he sensed the danger saturating the room beyond.
He didn’t hesitate and charged straight in. The moment he entered, there was a bang as the room sealed shut.
Edmund’s laughter echoed through the room. “Guess you’re not that smart after all, Ashton. You walked right into the gas chamber! You’re not getting out, so die in there, slowly and painfully. I’ll make sure to enjoy the view!
“Oh, it’s you, you trash. You’re here, too? Sounds like you’re tired of living,” Ashton said icily.
“No one humiliates me, Ashton Gray! You stole my woman and ruined my reputation. How could I ever spare you? If you want to kill me, make it to me alive first!” Edmund’s eyes bulged as he worked the mechanisms, flooding Ashton’s room with Deathwraith, a poison.
In an instant, the poison–deadly enough to kill even those in the semi–transcendent realm–permeated the room, swallowing Ashton whole.
Seeing the poison engulf Ashton on the monitor, Edmund exhaled in relief. “One breath of that is enough to make someone go limp. Ashton’s a cripple now. If he’s not dead, we’ll break his limbs and drag him here so he can watch me have fun with his wife and her sister.”
Edmund cackled again.

Just then, a sudden boom ripped through the chamber. The sealed door blasted open under a terrifying force. Ashton stepped out of the swirling poison.
“What?”
“How is that possible?”
Ashton locked onto Renee’s position and streaked forward like a lightning bolt. In a heartbeat, he kicked open the door to the room where Renee and the others were before storming in.
