The figure appeared like a demon crawling out of the abyss. He fixed Ashton with a terrifying stare and let out a raspy, mocking laugh.

“Get out of my way, or I’ll kill you, too!” Ashton said coldly

“You really are arrogant. Do you even know who I am?” The figure narrowed his eyes, staring Ashton down as if he could see straight through him.

“I don’t care who you are. If you continue to stand in my way, I’ll be happy to send you straight to hell.”

Ashton didn’t waste time. Like a gust of wind, he swept toward Renee’s location.

“Ignorant fool! You’re facing Lupus, the ace assassin of the Shadowed Nocturnals! Dying by my hand is the greatest honor you’ll ever get!”

Lupus‘ gaze went cold. In the blink of an eye, he vanished from where he stood, as if he’d never been there. “I’ve found your weakness, so accept your death sentence!”

His voice was so airy and distant that it was impossible to tell where he was.

One breath later, he smirked with pride. He approached Ashton from behind without releasing the slightest hint of his presence. He raised an arm and slammed a palm down toward Ashton’s head, the movement cruel and decisive.

Lupus felt an indescribable sense of threat from Ashton, so he had no intention of leaving any survivors.

With a thunderous boom, a surge of violent power exploded outward.

Lupus chuckled. “I thought you might be a tough opponent, but I guess not. If you can’t see through my technique, you’re bound to die, even if you’re an SS–ranked expert.”

“What are you talking about?”

Lupus froze, and his smile vanished in an instant. He whipped around in shock and saw Ashton standing about a foot away from him. He clamped one hand on Lupus‘ shoulder, then, a wild, piercing force drove into Lupus‘ body like a thousand arrows to the heart.

“You… How are you here?”

Lupus tried to struggle, but everything he did was in vain. He was like a mouse toyed with in the talons of a hawk. There was no escape and nowhere to run.

A wave of raw terror crashed over him. He couldn’t understand how Ashton was unscathed.

Ashton sounded indifferent. “You didn’t actually think those petty tricks could kill me, did you? Or did you think your footwork was unreadable? I’ll be honest–every move you made was right under my nose. Also, you were slow and weak.”

As his inner energy coursed through Lupus‘ body, the latters frame began to fracture from the inside out. Lines of blood burst across his skin, and a ripping agony swallowed him whole.

Lupus gritted his teeth and burned every last drop of his inner energy, moving as fast as he could to put distance between them. He was desperate to get away from Ashton, who was like a true god of death.

But to his despair, no matter where he shifted, Ashton followed like a shadow. He couldn’t shake him at all.

“You… What realm are you…”
