Ashton had fully accounted for retaliation from both Emerson Group and the Sage. He, however, was surprised that Calvin’s parents were the ones to lead the charge, while the Sage remained conspicuously silent.

He knew that he couldn’t conceal the killings of Calvin and Edmund–and he hadn’t planned to. He considered this the perfect starting point to launch a formal war against the Sage.

He resolved that the criminal underworld in Javonbury couldn’t remain indefinitely under the control of the Sage. He knew that the Sage had amassed a fortune and undermined civic stability while serving as the ruler of the criminal underworld.

He was aware that the Sage was an ingrained menace, entrenched in Javonbury for decades and dwarfing the influence of previous crime lords. He resolved that the Sage was a scourge who demanded eradication.

It was also the first significant mission Ashton had to fulfill as the deputy head of the Legion.

“You teamed up with that good–for–nothing and murdered my son, Roxy! You’ll both pay for it with your lives!” Yvonne shrieked hoarsely, her eyes vividly bloodshot.

She had been utterly devastated ever since the moment she learned of Calvin’s fate.

“What’s going on here?”

“What happened, Roxy?”

It was then that the Sloans rushed out of their villa and faced the full show of the force Emerson Group brought. They swallowed hard, a cold sweat instantly breaking out as they grasped the severity of the situation.

Roxy explained, “Ashton killed Calvin in an act of self–defense.”

Tanya exclaimed, “W–What did you just say? That good–for–nothing is going to get us killed! How could he dare to kill someone? Who gave him that kind of nerve? Why hasn’t he been arrested yet? He is a menace who belongs behind bars for good!”
