Divorced and Dominant Now You Cry novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Ashton took in Roxy’s clear, flawless face that was wearing a pleading, pitiful expression. For a moment, he was dazed. It was as if he’d been pulled back to that first instant he had ever laid eyes on her.

In that moment, he finally understood how much of a sway a person’s first love had on them.

But at the same time, his state of mind had changed as well. Not even the Roxy of the past could stir his heart anymore, let alone the current one.

With a curt voice devoid of emotion, Ashton said, Do you still remember the way I pleaded for you not to bring up the divorce on my mom’s birthday because of her weak heart? What did you do instead? What ended up happening then?

Do you really think I’d agree to your request? Stop being delusional! I’ve severed all ties with you and the Sloan family!

His words stabbed into Roxy’s heart like daggers.

She’d never thought that the words she’d said on Irene’s birthday would come back around and backfire on her. Still, she refused to give up. Must you really be this heartless, Ashton?

If we’re comparing levels of heartlessness, I’m afraid I’m nothing compared to you.

Roxy’s chest heaved as she snapped through gritted teeth, Tell me what you want, Ashton! Just what will it take for you to give me the medication? You just want to seize this chance to make a huge demand, don’t you? Well, here’s your chance. Go ahead and say it!

Towering over Roxy, Ashton looked down at her. He now knew that he had never truly understood her, nor did she understand him.

After a pause, he said, If you want to make me an offer, I only have one demand. I want custody of Celia.

Never!Roxy shot back at once.

Ashton said nothing more. He turned away and walked toward Isaac.

Stop right there, Ashton!

Panicked, Robert stood in Ashton’s way. Biting back his fury, he muttered, You’d better not push it, if you know what’s good for you! If you hand over the medication, there’s still a chance for you to win back Roxy before the divorce is finalized.

Don’t push things too far. Otherwise, you won’t ever have a shot with her again!

He knew what Ashton’s weakness was. By giving him a shred of hope that he might be able to win Roxy back again, he would surely hesitate out of fear of ruining his chances.

Once they got the medication, however, Robert was going to teach Ashton a harsh lesson to make humiliation he’d endured just now!

After hearing what Robert said, Roxy remained silent, neither admitting nor denying it.

However, Calvin was visibly anxious. What if Ashton and Roxy got back together? Where would that leave him?

Luckily for him, Ashton didn’t even consider that as he responded bluntly, I don’t want her back.

Why, you-Robert was so pissed that his words failed him.

Roxy’s expression grew even icier as she snapped, Ashton! Do you really think you’re the only one who can treat my mom’s stomach disorder? Don’t flatter yourself so much. Even without you, there are others who can treat her condition!

Calvin hastily chimed in, Don’t worry, Roxy. I’ve already contacted a friend of mine who’s a doctor. He’ll definitely be able to cure Mrs. Sloan of her condition. We don’t need to ask Ashton for help. His socalled medical skills aren’t even worth a damn!

Snorting, Ashton remarked, Good luck with that.

He was the most familiar with Tanya’s condition. It was a chronic and incurable disease. He couldn’t even be sure if she’d still be alive right now if he hadn’t intervened back then.

While it was true that there might be some other experts in this world who could keep Tanya’s condition at bay, people like Roxy or Calvin would certainly not have the means to seek their help.

Ashton’s mocking expression only served to enrage Roxy even further. She snarled, Listen closely, Ashton! I will never give you a chance to challenge me for custody of Celia. You’re not worthy of being her father!
