Chapter 27

Robert struggled back to his feet and got ready to throw another punch. But when he met Ashton’s icy gaze, he immediately shuddered in fright and gulped before taking a few steps back.

“Ashton’s gone insane, Roxy! He had the gall to hit me! You’ve got to stand up for me!” Robert howled.

“I only wanted him to hand over Mom’s medication, but he cursed her instead and said she should just die! He even promised to send a funeral wreath! How can someone be so vicious?”

As always, whenever something happened, Robert would seek Roxy and ask her to stand up for him. Once Ashton apologized, he fully intended to pay him back for the humiliation.

Meanwhile, after seeing the commotion, Roxy immediately rushed over as well. When she saw the handprint on Robert’s face, she glared at Ashton and berated him, “When will you ever stop resorting to violence, Ashton? Even if Robert did something wrong, he’s still my younger brother!”

“That’s right. He’s your younger brother, so what does it have to do with me? Am I supposed to coddle him?”

Roxy stiffened as she now remembered that she and Ashton had already filed for divorce. Under these circumstances, Ashton and Robert were indeed no longer related to each other.

“Even so, you shouldn’t be hitting someone! If I called the police, you’d be arrested!”

“Don’t even try to scare us, Roxy. You saw what happened. Robert was clearly the one who tried to get physical first. Ashton simply defended himself. If we got the authorities involved, who knows who’d be the one who gets charged instead?” Sylvia piped up with a smile.

She wanted nothing more than for Ashton to get into a complete falling out with the entire Sloan family. The bigger the conflict between the two, the more unlikely it was for him and Roxy to get back together. She was thrilled to see the Sloans behaving so stupidly.

Roxy’s expression was cold as ice. Ignoring Sylvia, she said to Ashton, “I never thought you’d turn out like this, Ashton! Do you know what I regret the most now? I regret not divorcing you sooner!”

“Roxy, I told you long ago that people aren’t always what they seem. Ashton was never a good man. He approached you with ulterior motives right from the very beginning! And now, he has finally taken his mask off.

“But don’t you worry. I’m right here with you. I won’t let you get hurt in any way again!” Calvin confidently declared.

“I feel the same way. I regret not divorcing you sooner,” Ashton replied with a sigh.

Once, he believed that he and Roxy would remain happily married forever. Now, after looking back, he realized there was no such thing as “forever“. Human nature was unpredictable.

Roxy stared right into Ashton’s eyes. She no longer saw the love that had once been in them. There was only disdain and indifference.

Biting her lip, she put her hand out, her palm open. “Regardless of everything, Ashton, my mom has always been decent to you. Give me the medication and the prescription. After that, we can go our separate ways in peace.”

“Sorry. I won’t be giving you the medication, and I certainly won’t be giving you the prescription either.”

“How can you be so cruel?” Roxy questioned, her eyes blazing. “You were never like this before, Ashton!”

“That was then, and this is now. Oh, by the way, you were wrong about something. Your mom has never been decent to me before. Since she has always turned her nose up at me, she should stick with that attitude and not rely on my medication either.”

“Please, Ashton! Just think of it as me begging you. Give me the medication!” Roxy’s body was taut as she fixed her eyes on Ashton.

Whenever they fought in the past, all she had to do was look at him like such, and he could eventually give in to her. She firmly believed that things would be no different this time.
