Chapter 317
The moment Ashton finished speaking, the entire room fell silent.
An old servant helped Kenneth into a seated position on the bed, and his eyes swept across the room before landing on Ashton.
“How do you know I’ve been afflicted with malevolent energy?” Kenneth demanded, his face pale.
“It’s obvious from a single glance,” Ashton replied curtly.
Sheila hurriedly said, “Dad! Just let Ashton take a look at you. Maybe he really has the skill to save you. Natalie wouldn’t lie to me!”
“Hah! Oh, Sheila. I can’t believe you told this fling of yours about your father’s condition! Didn’t your father say it must never be revealed to anyone? The lengths you’d go to just to let your new boyfriend look good in front of everyone!” Jane growled, her gaze hostile.
“I didn’t! I didn’t say a single word! Dad, you have to believe me!” Sheila cried out anxiously.
However, Kenneth frowned, looking even more frail now. He hesitated briefly, not quite trusting someone as young as Ashton.
Eventually, he said reluctantly, “Alright. I’ll give him a chance.”
“That’s great!” Sheila exclaimed.
She then pinched Ashton, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Ashton! You’d better be able to treat my dad, or else, I’d be humiliated alongside you…”
Scoffing, Ashton looked at Kenneth and said, “Listen up. I’m only saving you because your daughter is my woman. Otherwise, based on your initial attitude alone, I couldn’t care less if you died!”
“What did you just say?” Jane fumed. “Look at him, honey! This is the random man of the streets that Sheila brought home!”
Kenneth was frowning as well.
Just then, an ecstatic voice rang out.
“Dad! I got Dr. Nadine Fowler, the divine doctor, to come and treat you!”
Bradley Beldon, Jane’s son, came walking into the room with a beautiful woman dressed in white.
“Nadine Fowler, the divine doctor? She’s here in Javonbury?”
“How wonderful! If Dr. Fowler treats Mr. Beldon, he’ll definitely be cured of the malevolent energy! It truly is his lucky day!”
“I can’t believe the legendary divine doctor is so young and beautiful. She really looks like a goddess of some kind!
The crowd in the room murmured in awe, for Nadine’s reputation preceded her.
“Now that’s my son! I knew I doted on you for a reason!” Jane exclaimed.
“Honey, you’re saved! Thank goodness that random man didn’t get to do anything to you yet. Who knows what would’ve happened otherwise?”

Gloating smugly, she shoved Ashton and Sheila aside, keeping them away from Kenneth.
“But Dad, you agreed to let Ashton take a look at you!” Sheila cried out frantically.
“I can’t believe you still want your fling to check on your father when Dr. Fowler is here, Sheila. You really don’t care if your father dies, huh? And to think how much he loves you. You can’t wait for him to die so that you can get your hands on his assets, right?” Jane snapped harshly, leveling heavy accusations at her.
Being Kenneth’s second wife, she was naturally hostile against Sheila, the daughter of his first wife and Bradley’s rival for the family inheritance.
“That’s enough! Stop arguing,” Kenneth said before coughing.
Ignoring Ashton, he turned to Nadine with a grateful expression, “Thank you for coming over, Dr. Fowler.”
“It’s nothing.”
Nadine’s expression was cool and unbothered. She carried herself with an innate sense of arrogance, as if no one deserved even a second glance from her. She only came over to see what kind of malevolent energy Kenneth was plagued with.
After all, her only interest in life was the pursuit of medicine.
“Ashton, was it? Since Dr. Fowler is here, we won’t need your help,” Kenneth said.
Sheila’s expression dimmed. “Dad, you agreed to let Ashton give it a shot…”
