Chapter 517
“Do you honestly think you have the authority to represent the entire Payne family, Mr. Payne?” Elise asked with a scoff.
“I’m the sole heir of the Paynes, so of course I have. It’s merely a trifle matter, so I don’t think it’s necessary for you to fall out with the Paynes over this, Ms. Haywood. It would be far better for us to become friends–anything can be resolved at the table,” Damian explained in a low, steady tone.
He was thoroughly satisfied with himself, convinced that his poise and presence had made him the undeniable protagonist of the moment.
It was then that the sound of the slap echoed through the hall like a gunshot. Elise had struck without warning, the sheer power of her slap visibly warping Damian’s features and leaving five vivid fingerprints etched clearly into his cheek.
“How dare you hit me, Elise!” Damian’s eyes were bloodshot, resembling those of a raging, bloodthirsty beast.
“You wouldn’t want the story of you seducing your second uncle’s wife–your own aunt–to get out, would you, Mr. Payne?” Elise whispered to Damian.
Rumors had it that Blossom Hall was a crossroads for information, a place where every scandal and whisper was meticulously documented and locked away.
Damian’s scandals were so numerous that they were practically a library unto themselves, which was why Elise had no respect for the so–called most distinguished scion in Javonbury.
Elise dealt that blow without a second thought, intending to send Roxy a message–to make her see exactly what kind of man she had chosen, a man who could never stand in the same league as Ashton.
Damian shuddered all over, a piercing cold coursing through him while fear steadily took hold.
“You’re an outsider to this situation, so I suggest you stop involving yourself before things get worse. Isn’t that right, Mr. Payne?” Elise offered a faint smile, her expression dripping with sarcasm.
“Y–You’re absolutely right, Ms. Haywood,” Damian replied with assurance stripped away until nothing remained.

He slunk back with his head bowed, resembling a scolded schoolboy. He couldn’t even bring himself to look at Roxy’s puzzled gaze. He knew that he’d be done for if those secrets of his were ever exposed.
“What’s the matter with you, Mr. Payne? You said you’d get me out of this! You have to hurry up and plead for me! You’re the most distinguished scion in Javonbury, for god’s sake! You can’t just stand by and watch me die!
“You want to win Roxy over, right? You should do something to prove that you’re actually worth something, then!” Robert roared.
He completely lost it when he noticed Damian backing away, as he didn’t want to be crippled.
Damian remained silent, thinking that saving Robert was the last thing on his mind now. He only hoped that he wouldn’t become collateral damage in Robert’s downfall.
“Go break Robert’s hands and feet according to the rules of the Blossom Hall, then toss him out to set an

example!” Elise ordered, her voice still possessing a charming, magnetic quality, though it still sent a chilling shiver down everyone’s spine.
“You’ve got to save me, Roxy! I don’t want to end up crippled!” Robert trembled uncontrollably, his face streaked with tears as he wailed.
“What must I do for you to let Robert go, Ms. Haywood?” Roxy asked coldly after taking a deep breath, completely ignoring Damian. She couldn’t fathom why Elise had it out for her, but she was certain there was a hidden agenda behind this hostility.
“I’m not looking for a deal here. I’m only acting according to the rules of the Blossom Hall, so I hope you’ll understand our position, Ms. Sloan,” Elisa said with a smile, staring straight into Roxy’s eyes.
“If you dare lay a hand on Robert, I, Roxy Sloan, swear that I’ll fight Blossom Hall to the bitter end!” Roxy was suddenly enveloped in a shimmering white glow as a formidable pressure surged forth, striking everyone present with a profound sense of dread.
