Chapter 519

Elise’s exclamation felt utterly out of place. There was something deeply unsettling about her tone, yet there was no mistaking itthe formidable head of Blossom Hall had truly uttered these words.

Those present exchanged looks of bewilderment. They were dying to know who this Ashton really was. They thought he had to be someone of truly staggering importance to earn that kind of glowing praise from Elise.

Isn’t she being too excessive? It’s so embarrassing!Ashton grimaced from his vantage point upstairs. He never expected Elise to be so ostentatious, so much so that he just wanted to sink into the ground and escape the embarrassment.

Whitney giggled coquettishly as she leaned against Ashton. Elise is just venting some frustration on your behalf, darling.

Ashton wore an expression of utter helplessness, thinking to himself that women’s minds were unfathomable.

I know him! Ashton is my brotherinlaw, and he has always treated me very well! You know my brotherin- law, right, Ms. Haywood? I hope you’ll spare me this once for his sake! I swear I won’t cause any trouble in the Blossom Hall again!Robert exclaimed eagerly, as if he’d grasped at a last thread of hope.

What kind of influence does Ashton even possess?Damian muttered to himself, looking displeased.

Roxy frowned, a sense of unease creeping over her. She had already begun to sense that something was amiss. She had been observing Elise closely, trying to figure out her true objective.

She thought that it made no sense for someone of Elise’s standing to waste her breath on a nobody like Robert- until she caught Elise’s smile and the affection in her eyes as soon as Ashton was brought up. She immediately concluded that Elise had some connection to Ashton.

Elise smirked as she stared at the panicked Robert. Ashton is your brotherinlaw? I’d be more than happy to show Mr. Gray the respect he deserves. If he truly were your brotherinlaw, I wouldn’t lay a finger on you and would even treat you like an honored guest of the Blossom Hall.

I’m pretty sure that Mr. Gray has already gotten a divorce from Ms. Sloan, though. In that case, what right do you have to claim him as family now, Mr. Sloan?

Robert was stunned into silence, a wave of conflicted emotions washing over him. He was overjoyed that mentioning Ashton’s name actually workedAshton clearly had a special connection with Elise, the head of Blossom Hall, proving that he was actually a man of staggering status.

He also felt a sharp pang of frustration because Ashton had already ended his marriage with Roxy, which meant that he had no right to claim that he was his brotherinlaw anymore.

He was convinced that he was out of his mind back then for pushing Roxy to divorce Ashton. He realized now that he had been colossally stupid to throw away such a powerful brotherinlaw.

He exclaimed hurriedly, You have to believe me, Ms. Haywood! Ashton really is my brotherinlaw! He used to treat me so well, so much so that he used to drop everything to come save me whenever I was in trouble! Please spare me this once, Ms. Haywood!

Elise scoffed derisively. You know damn well that that was in the past, Mr. Sloan! I don’t care about who he was to you. I care about who he is now. Is Mr. Gray related to you in any way now, Mr. Sloan? If there is none, then

you are nothing to me!

She then commanded her people, Go ahead and cripple him, then toss him into the street!

Stop! Don’t!Robert was scared out of his wits, but then a spark of hope flared as he recalled seeing Ashton in the Blossom Hall.

You have to come save me, Ashton! I’ve realized my wrongdoings now! I shouldn’t have treated you so poorly before this! I was a fool for not recognizing your greatness back then! I don’t want to spend my life as a cripple, so please come save me, Ashton!

Robert was a pathetic sight, his face streaked with tears and mucus as he wailed for mercy. Roxy, on the other hand, remained unnervingly still. She hardened her gaze as she stared at Elise’s still beaming face, her mind racing as her suspicions finally solidified into a definitive conclusion.

A few moments later, no one had responded to Robert.

He looked deathly pale as he yelled, I’m begging you, Ashton! I’m truly sorry for everything that happened back then! I know it’s all my fault now! It’s not you who was unworthy of Roxyit is she who is unworthy of you! I’m the one to blame for everything, so please show me some mercy and save me, Ashton!
