Robert looked terrified, petrified that Ashton was really going to leave him out in the cold.

He doubled down on his pleading, exclaiming, “I was wrong about you before, Ashton. I was a fool, a complete idiot! I’ll do anything for you as long as you save me! I’ll even make things right between you and Roxy! I’ll get you two back together, and I’ll-”

“Shut up!”

Ashton and Roxy snapped at the exact same moment, their tones sharp with a sudden, biting chill. They then turned to face one another, yet their gaze held nothing but pure, unadulterated indifference.

“What exactly is going on between you and Elise? You were the one who set this whole trap, right? Is this your idea of payback, Ashton?” Roxy glared at Ashton, her breath coming in sharp, heavy gasps as her fury boiled

over.

He had just ruined Summit Media, and in the next breath, he was cozying up to someone else and orchestrating Robert’s downfall. She couldn’t help but wonder if he really despised her to this extent.

“If that’s what you think, then so be it,” Ashton replied indifferently.

“Mr. Gray and I have quite a history, Ms. Sloan! You could say I’m currently pursuing him, though he hasn’t quite given in to my charms yet!” Elise batted her lashes, looking radiant as she glanced at Roxy, as if to say that letting Ashton go was the biggest blunder she had ever made in her life.

Elise’s statement once again set off a massive uproar.

“You’re telling me the former most beautiful woman in Javonbury is actually pursuing Ashton? You’ve got to be kidding me! What’s so special about Ashton?”

“I don’t get it, but I’m completely blown away!”

“I wish I were in Ashton’s shoes right now…”

“Ashton is the ultimate role model for all men! He’s a straight–up legend among men!”

Roxy’s expression tightened as a sharp, stabbing pain pierced her chest.

She thought that it was supposed to be the other way around. She was the one who had walked away from him, but she was the one who felt the crushing weight of rejection now, as if Ashton were the one casting her aside.

“Please don’t argue with Ashton anymore, Roxy! You should hurry up and apologize to him–tell him you’re sorry and beg him to let me go, Roxy!” Robert was still being held down on his knees, terrified that Roxy might set Ashton off again.

“I will never apologize to him!” Roxy barked, her fury reaching a boiling point as the white light radiating from her grew blindingly bright.

“Ms. Sloan is quite the spitfire, Mr. Gray!” Elise chuckled lightly before her gaze turned cold, a shadow of killing intent crossing her features. “You should just break Robert’s limbs, Mr. Gray–after all, this is what the Sloan family deserves!”

Elise declared with absolute, chilling sincerity. She was fully aware that such a move would bring a world of trouble down upon her head, but she didn’t care. She was more than willing to face the fallout as long as she could help Ashton vent his pent–up anger.

“Please don’t!” Robert pleaded, shaking his head frantically.

He then turned his pleading eyes toward Ashton and exclaimed, “Please show me mercy for the sake of our past, Ashton! I’m not just Roxy’s brother–I’m Renee’s brother as well! I’m sure Renee will be devastated if I end up crippled! How could you ever look her in the eye again, Ashton?”

Ashton cocked his brow slightly before taking a step toward Roxy. He met Roxy’s incandescent rage with a disdainful smirk and said, “I’ll let him go if you’re willing to beg for Robert’s release, Roxy. I’ll show some mercy for Renee’s sake. How does that sound, Roxy?”

“You want me to beg you?” Roxy clenched her fists, tensing up as she stared at the man before her.

The person she once knew best in the world was now nothing more than a stranger.
