what happened that night.
The more she thought about it, the clearer the details became. For some reason, the Grim Reaper’s silhouette started to meld with Ashton’s figure more and more.
And today, Eunice learned that Ashton was about to engage in a duel to the death with Clay, which was a huge shock to her. It was also then that she found out he’d joined the Legion long ago and was afforded the highest regard from Lawrence.
Lawrence had even wagered the northern frontier and northern commission on the duel!
But why? Why was he doing this?
Eunice wasn’t a complete idiot. She soon thought of a possibility. Could it be that Ashton was the Grim Reaper?
That was the only way it made sense for Lawrence to bet everything on him. But if that were the case, did it not mean she had sex with Ashton?
That was impossible!
Eunice’s thoughts were a mess. She stared fixedly at Ashton, hoping to find something that made it clear he wasn’t the Grim
Reaper.
“Answer me! Do you have any relationship with Lord Reaper?” Eunice demanded, her voice sounding rushed and her face
covered in sweat.
She’d realized that the closer she got to Ashton, the more that familiar feeling rushed over her.
“Nope,” Ashton replied, his brows raised.
He was inwardly grumbling over what a bother this situation was. It was true that some women shouldn’t be slept with at all.
Under normal circumstances, Ashton wouldn’t have bothered to give Eunice a second glance. But he’d been her first man, and her special constitution had aided him in attaining the semi–divine realm. In a way, he had to take responsibility for that.
That being said, she was still way too dumb. If his identity as the Grim Reaper were to be exposed, there was no telling what might happen.
Besides, Ashton didn’t want to have anything to do with Eunice. It would be best if they could forget each other and go their
separate ways.
“No relationship whatsoever?” Eunice mumbled.
Biting her lip, she grabbed Ashton and questioned, “Are you Lord Reaper?”
Her heart began pounding rapidly the moment she asked that question. She had no idea how she’d face the situation it he really did turn out to be the Grim Reaper.
Ashton was the ex–husband of her good friend, Roxy, and they’d badmouthed him a ton behind his back. It Roxy found out she’d slept with Ashton…
Eunice was too scared to go down that train of thought.
“Nope,” Ashton said coolly. “Done with your questions yet? Can I go now? I still need to prepare for my match with Clay in two days.”
Eunice’s eyes flickered with uncertainty. Suddenly, she steeled herself and threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around him. She took in the scorching heat coming from his body and his scent that filled her nose.

Having been intimate with the Grim Reaper before, she was certain she wouldn’t be wrong about the temperature of his body and the way he smelled. Those were memories she often relived late at night.
Ashton was startled. Inner energy surged within him as he used the Cosmic Breathing Technique to suppress the presence of his Drakeborne lineage.
“Huh?”
With her body pressed against Ashton’s, Eunice felt an instant of intense familiarity, as if she had returned to the heat and debauchery of that night.
But soon, a completely different aura emanated from Ashton, one that was utterly unlike what she’d sensed from the Grim Reaper that night. It lacked the imposing air and domineering presence that he gave off.
“Have you hugged me long enough yet? Are you trying to take advantage of me, or are you trying to tell me that you’re interested in me? Have you fallen in love with me?” Ashton inquired in amusement.
