Ashton was fully aware that Lawrence wouldn’t be faking a coma unless he had a belly full of bad intentions.
He knew that Lawrence was far from being a man of integrity, which was why the two of them hit it off so well.
“Do you still intend to go ahead with our plan, Ash? Do you want to challenge the Sage in a few days, take over as the ruler of the criminal underworld of Javonbury, and seize more territory for the Legion?” Lawrence asked solemnly through telepathic
communication.
“Yes, Mr. Clarkson Senior!” Ashton replied with absolute certainty
Lawrence asked, “You’re well aware that the Sage has allied himself with the Dominion Vanguard and the Jalunese Martial Association. When combined with his own might, the birthday banquet on his home turf at Grandcrest Estate is essentially a
trap.
“Your chances of survival would be slim to none if you act recklessly. Does the prospect truly not frighten you, Ash?”
“That is exactly why this is the perfect chance to take the crown and become the ruler of the criminal underworld of Javonbury, Mr. Clarkson Senior!”
“What are your chances of winning?”
“I’d say at least 60% if we go with the current plan!”
“If that’s the case, let’s join forces and fleece these people again! It feels incredible to make a profit, and the Legion is currently in need of a massive cash injection.
“I’m certain that we can be more aggressive this time–we’ll take all these factions down in one go!” Lawrence had developed a one–track mind for profit since the last payout, focusing entirely on filling the Legion’s coffers.
“What do you have in mind, Mr. Clarkson Senior?”
“You can spread the news and have Wanda at the Curios Chamber open another betting pool. If you’re certain that you’ve got this in the bag, wager on who will become the ruler of the criminal underworld of Javonbury in a few days–whether it will be you or the Sage!
“I’m certain it’ll trigger a frenzy across Javonbury, and every faction will want a piece of action because betting is the same as declaring their allegiance.
“In the meantime, we’ll be able to tell exactly who our enemies are, which will make seizing Javonbury much easier!”
Lawrence’s tone was deliberate and thoughtful, sounding as though he had been planning this for ages.
Ashton’s eyes flashed with excitement. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t considered such a lucrative way to reap rewards.
He was aware that once the wager was announced, every faction backing Flint would be forced to go all–in on him to prove their allegiance–it was a way of showing where their allegiances lay.
Ashton just had to wait for the stakes to hit their peak, then place a massive bet on his own victory and sweep the board. He stood to gain far more from this fight than he ever did from defeating Clay.
Also, those who had previously lost would be eager to make up for it, looking to recover both their wagers and the accrued profits.
It was simply a massive pile of money for the taking.
Ashton felt a surge of excitement stirring within him. He finally grasped the purpose behind Lawrence’s continued charade of
slumber.
In the eyes of the public, Flint held the advantage with the Dominion Vanguard and the Jalunese Martial Association on his side.
