Seeing the respectful look on Otto’s face and the trace of mockery in Ashton’s eyes, Roxy remained rooted to the spot. The unease she had felt earlier surged like a tide, churning violently in her heart.

She couldn’t wrap her head around this situation.

Why was Ashton, the man she had discarded, constantly towering over her, forcing her to look at him from below? Why was the man she had given up on so favored by so many of these remarkable women?

It was akin to one slap after the other, all crashing heavily against her face.

“That’s impossible! That’s absolutely impossible! How could he be the miracle doctor? There must be some kind of mistake!” Tanya shrieked.

“Even if this good–for–nothing bastard has a few tricks up his sleeve, there’s no way he could’ve won the heart of Ms. Moore, the most beautiful woman in Javonbury!

“How could she possibly fall for him? Why would Mr. and Mrs. Moore ruin their own daughter’s life by marrying her off to the likes of him?”

Tanya was undoubtedly the one most devastated by this news. She launched into a furious tirade, completely losing all rationality. Her eyes turned bloodshot, and her body wouldn’t stop shaking.

All of a sudden, Otto marched up to Tanya, and before Roxy could even react, he coldly slapped Tanya across the face.

“How dare you insult Ms. Moore’s husband like that? This is your wife, Mr. Sloan? I guess you’re not a very good judge of character. Kindly keep this madwoman in check!”

No trace of Otto’s earlier courtesy remained on his face.

Although he was merely a long–serving member of the Moore family’s household staff, he had worked for them for decades now. As a result, he enjoyed a pretty high social standing himself.

Besides, he was no slouch when it came to martial arts either. He was also deeply trusted by George and Josie.

With the Moores backing him up, there was no reason for him to show any respect to the Sloans. They were nothing but a nouveau riche family and certainly weren’t qualified to demand his respect.

Roxy’s eyes flashed with anger. She was just about to speak, but Michael stopped her.

Michael shook his head, signalling that she shouldn’t offend the Moores.

After glaring menacingly at Ashton, he forced a smile and said, “I apologize for my wife’s rudeness, Mr. Witt. But is the Moore family aware of Ashton’s background? We’re just concerned that he might’ve fooled Mrs. Moore. After all, his past is extremely disgraceful.”

Otto raised his eyebrows and asked grimly, “What do you mean by that?”

Lowering his voice, Michael explained, “Mr. Witt, Ashton here used to be my son–in–law. However, because of his many evil deeds, we kicked him out of the family. I’m worried that… the Moores might be inviting disaster into the family.”

Otto stiffened. He knew nothing about Ashton’s background and was simply carrying out Josie’s instructions.
