Otto briefly explained what had happened and tactfully reminded Faye about Ashton possibly having a problematic background.

She merely smiled and said to him, “How could you allow yourself to be taken in with a few words from a total outsider, Mr. Witt? Since he’s the husband my mom personally chose for me, how could we not know his background?

“Do you really think my parents are that foolish? I know better than anyone who he is. You don’t need to worry about that.”

Feeling relieved, Otto quickly said, “I’m glad to hear that.”

He shot Michael a furious glare. To think that Michael had tried to sow discord between him and Ashton. What a truly despicable

act!

Otto had thought it through as well. How could there possibly be a problem with Ashton when Josie herself had chosen him to be her son–in–law? She was an impeccable judge of character.

“It’s nice to meet you, Roxy,” Faye said, holding out her hand for a handshake, her voice delightful.

“Hello.” Roxy maintained a polite smile and lightly touched Faye’s outstretched fingers.

“Come over here, Ashton. Introduce me to your ex–wife.” Faye shot Ashton a flirtatious wink.

Ashton jolted slightly. What was Faye up to this time?

He paused for a moment before walking over to Faye. After wrapping an arm around her waist, he smiled at Roxy and said, ” Allow me to make the introductions. This is my fiancee, Faye Moore–the most beautiful woman in Javonbury and the daughter

of the richest man in town.

“And this is Roxy Sloan, my ex–wife. We’ve completely cut off all ties between us.”

Faye trembled when Ashton placed his hand against her waist. She tried to break free from him, only to find that he was holding onto her tightly.

In the end, she gave up her attempts, inwardly swearing she would give him a piece of her mind soon enough.

For the time being, she would play along with him.

After all, he’d saved her life, and Josie had chosen him to be her husband. She couldn’t possibly let him be humiliated in front of Roxy.

Roxy took a deep breath, forcing herself to remain calm as she spoke, unwilling to let herself betray any emotion “Ms. Moore, are you sure you want to marry Ashton?”

“That’s right. Is there a problem with that?” Paye asked as she calmly met Roxy’s paze.

“Do you really understand what type of man he is?” Roxy pressed.

Faye smiled. “Not completely. He’s even more mysterious than I imagined. But I think you probably didn’t really understand Ashton either, right, Roxy? If not, you wouldn’t have failed to realize that the so–called miracle doctor was Ashton

“And you wouldn’t have divorced him either. Speaking of which, I should actually thank you, Roxy, for giving up on him. Otherwise, I might still be asleep right now, never meeting the hero who woke me up.”
