Chapter 715
Ashton’s words sent a shockwave through the hall. No one expected him to call out Flint’s two most trusted sons while standing at such a massive disadvantage.
Clive and Ivan were the Sage’s right and left hands. They were the ones who helped him secure his title as the ruler of the criminal underworld in Javonbury. Both had always been fiercely loyal, and there had never even been a whisper of family conflict.
Was Ashton joking? Did he really expect them to turn on their father?
Every eye in the room pivoted toward Clive and Ivan. Even Flint turned his deep, icy gaze toward his children.
Nearby, Irina watched with her mouth hanging open. She looked from Ashton to the silent brothers, and a sudden realization hit her.
Flint had also realized in an instant that Ashton was threatening his sons. He spoke immediately, moving to strip away any fear they had of his retribution.
“Clive! Ivan! I don’t care what you’ve done or what kind of leverage Ashton has over you. It’s over. As of this moment, you’re forgiven. We’re related by blood. Everything I’ve built in this city is yours. It all goes to you when I’m gone.”
His allies let out a collective breath of relief.
Flint was still the shrewder player. With one sentence, he had effectively gutted Ashton’s attempt to turn his own sons against him.
Someone scoffed and said, “Ashton just shot himself in the foot. He thought a little blackmail was enough to make them turn on the Sage? He underestimated the Sage. As long as the Sage still lives, the ruler of the criminal underworld isn’t going anywhere.”
“The Sage knows how to play people. Ashton isn’t even in his league. Once his two sons show their loyalty to their father, Ashton is finished. He’ll be hunted down and purged. It’s the only way this ends.”
Nobody believed Clive and Ivan would actually choose Ashton, who was backed into a corner and outgunned. The scales had already tipped heavily in Flint’s favour.
Even Neil and Kayla were breaking out in a cold sweat. They were already bracing for the worst. If the situation turned against them, they would give everything to cover Ashton’s escape and keep the spark of the Legion alive.
Under the collective gaze of the crowd, Clive and Ivan looked at each other. They were clearly struggling with the finality of the
choice.
If this were just about the secrets Ashton held over them, they might have stayed loyal. They wanted to believe their father wouldn’t kill his own sons.
The brothers wanted to trust Flint’s promise of a clean slate, but the leverage wasn’t the core of the problem. The real issue was the debt of blood–they wanted revenge for their mother’s murder.
Today was their only shot. Every time they remembered how their mother–who gave them life–had died at their father’s hand, a bone–deep hatred roared back to life.
“Clive! Ivan! Together, we will rule this city forever.” Flint delivered his final pitch, desperate to lock in their loyalty.
But just as the crowd expected the brothers to fall in line, Clive and Ivan stepped forward. They marched past their father’s guard and took their places beside Ashton.
Their eyes were bloodshot and raw. They stared at Flint, whose face twisted into a mask of pure, murderous rage.
“Listen to me!” Clive shouted in the room. “My father was born impotent. He colluded with criminals and committed treason. He has sold out this country for his own gain. A man this depraved has no right to rule Javonbury.
