Ashton wasn’t just asking if Kurt was convinced by his display. He was addressing every single person in Evermore Club. They could all see that he’d used Kurt to make a statement—and it worked!
Kurt had an extremely high standing in the club. His strength was undeniable, yet despite supposedly being such a tough guy, he’d been defeated by Ashton with just a single punch! If nothing else, Ashton’s sheer fighting power had won their respect.
The crowd looked at Ashton with a sense of awe and respect
However, Kurt clenched his jaw and growled in a harsh, ferocious voice, “I still can’t accept it!”
With the help of his men, he forcibly got back on his feet.
“Ms. Langley, I admit that Ashton’s good with his fists, but it takes more than being good at fighting to run a club. It relies more on connections,” Kurt declared, wincing through the pain as he continued to assert his stance.
“I’m sure you’re aware of why no one has ever caused trouble here at Evermore Club throughout all these years, Ms. Langley. It’s because I built the connections for us and maintained close ties with all of the bosses of the criminal underworld.
“Otherwise, Evermore Club would’ve been plagued with minor scuffles every other day and major brawls every week! There was no way we’d be able to do business!”
At those words, heads all around nodded.
Above all else, the most important thing for a nightlife establishment was to have a stable and safe environment. To achieve that, one needed to have connections with the criminal underworld. Otherwise, if those people caused any kind of trouble, it’d be impossible to keep the doors open.
Nodding, Felice chimed in, “Mr. Webster has a point! He’s irreplaceable for Evermore Club.”
Snorting, Ashton eyed Kurt contemptuously. “Your so–called connections, huh? Are you referring to how you’ve been spending a million dollars of the club’s funds each month to bribe those inconsequential crime bosses?” “What’s that supposed to mean, Ashton?” Kurt demanded.
“I’m saying that you’re not building connections at all. You’re just using money to settle things like some useless loser. Don’t you feel pathetic about forking out so much money each month? To think you have the gall to brag about it now!” Ashton said icily.
“If not for your incompetence, the one million dollars could’ve gone to every single employee in Evermore Club. Their salaries could’ve been raised by 10%.”
“Are you calling me incompetent?” Kurt snarled in fury. “The fact that I can use a million dollars to ensure peace for us is a sign of my abilities!
“If you’re the one who takes over Evermore Club, it doesn’t matter how much money you have. You still won’t be able to use it to do anything! I’ll have you know that if I leave Evermore Club today, a group of men from the underworld would most certainly come over tonight and tear this place apart!”
“Is that so? Unfortunately for you, you give yourself too much credit,” Ashton coolly replied. “As long as I’m around, no one will dare to cause trouble at Evermore Club,
“Such arrogance!”
“If you don’t believe me, feel free to call upon all your so–called connections. Let’s see if anyone of them dares to cause a scene here at Evermore Club!”

“You sure you want to do this? Once things blow up, you won’t be able to settle the matter with just a million dollars!” Kurt threatened, his voice dark and his eyes red.
“I said what I said. Go right ahead and summon your people I’ll be waiting, In the meantime, a guest of mine has arrived,” Ashton said.
He looked over at the entrance to see Gene walking in with a smile on his face. Beside him were two men laden with a mountain of gifts.
“Mr. Gray! I heard you’re taking over Evermore Club. I got you a congratulatory flower for the occasion. It’s on its way now. Here are some gifts I brought with me. You must accept them!” Gene gushed as he approached Ashton with a friendly, ingratiating expression.
“How kind of you. Sit anywhere you like,” Ashton said.
