Kurt glowered at his subordinate. “You’re just starting to feel a little scared? I’m about to piss my pants here!”

His legs had started to wobble the moment he saw Louie. Any thought of calling in his connections died out instantly.

He understood his meager network of contacts well. If anyone he called upon found out that they had to deal with Gene’s and Louie’s displeasure, they’d immediately chop his head off to appease those two men.

“Are we short on hostesses, Ms. Hammond?” Ashton asked as he turned to Felice, who was frozen in shock.

Felice snapped back to her senses and hastily replied, “Yes, we’re in urgent need of them…”

Nothing drew more people to a nightlife establishment than the number of hostesses–and their attractiveness as well.

Unfortunately, as Evermore Club’s business declined, most of their hostesses had been poached away. It was a vicious cycle that resulted in fewer and fewer customers returning to the club.

If they got in a new batch of attractive hostesses and organized a few promotional events in conjunction with it, the business would surely flourish once more for at least a while!

A sense of anticipation began to bubble up inside Felice. She was eager to throw herself into work and give it her best shot. By now, she no longer had a look of doubt and anger when she gazed at Ashton.

Even if he couldn’t resolve their crisis with the liquor supply, she was still willing to accept him as the new man in charge of Evermore Club.

“In that case, they can stay,” Ashton said.

“Wonderful! Thanks for doing me this honor, Mr. Gray!” Louie said before exhaling in relief.

He’d be genuinely afraid that Ashton might reject his offer. If that happened, how was he going to establish closer ties with Ashton? How was he going to shower Ashton with money, properties, and even Sally later on?

Since the first step had been a success, everything else would fall into place a lot more easily as well.

“Mr. Holt-”

“Please, Mr. Gray, just call me Lou.”

Ashton blinked. In terms of age, Louie was actually older than him. He was surprised to see how willing Louie was to humble himself like that.

He couldn’t resist taking a closer look at Louie. “Take a seat wherever you like, Mr. Holt. I’ll cover your tab tonight.

“I couldn’t possibly let you-”

“It’s best if we keep each matter separate, Mr. Holt,” Ashton interrupted, his tone firm.

Louie sighed inwardly. It was just as Walter had said. It wasn’t going to be so easy for him to build a true friendship with Ashton.

Yet, at the same time, this was all the more proof that Ashton was a man of principles and integrity. Once a man like him considered someone a friend, it would be a solid and meaningful friendship.

“In that case, I won’t stand on formality, Mr. Gray.”

Louie tactfully found himself a seat, all the while pondering how he was going to deliver Sally into Ashton’s arms.

After tending to Gene and Louie, Ashton turned back to Kurt and asked, “Have you called your people over yet? Let me see just how impressive your connections are. I’d like to see who would dare to cause trouble here at Evermore Club!”

Kurt dropped straight to his knees and declared, “I concede, Mr. Gray! I’m now fully convinced by you. From now on, you’re the boss of Evermore Club. I’ll obey your every command!”

He was willingly kneeling before Ashton and wholeheartedly submitting to Ashton’s authority. After all, he’d been involved in the criminal underworld for some time now. Based on Gene’s and Louie’s attitudes toward Ashton alone, he was certain that Ashton was no ordinary man.

How could he possibly offend a man that even the future successor of the Holt Crew wanted to curry favor with?

This was a chance–the start of his rise to glory!

“Is anyone else still not convinced I should be left in charge of Evermore Club?” Ashton’s sharp gaze swept across the crowd.

Not a single voice rose. Instead, their eyes were gleaming. Maybe, just maybe, this marked the turning point for Evermore Club.

“Good. Starting today, you’ll all receive a 10% increase in your basic salary. From now onward, 10% of the Evermore Club’s monthly profits will be distributed as bonuses for everyone. However, this depends on all of you doing your jobs properly.

“As long as you put your heart into your work, I can promise every single one of you that you’ll be able to make a decent living and live with dignity!”
