Gareth burst into furious laughter. He moved in a flash to the deathmatch stage with his sword in hand, standing opposed to Ashton and appearing as a sharp blade revealing its edge.
Their respective domains slammed into one another with a violent crash, their killing intent already reaching a boiling point.
Those present were chilled to discover that the semi–divine realm energy Gareth emanated was remarkably formidable, possessing an unbeatable edge and an air of invincibility. They could distinctly sense the surging killing intent, making them feel as though they were standing before a god.
“How can there be such a fearsome existence! Just one glance into his eyes made mine sting! He’s on a completely different level than Myron and Chadwick!”
“Gareth is the mentee of the Divine Swordmaster of Jalun, Wycliffe! He is rumored to have extraordinary talent in both martial arts and swordsmanship, making him the top of his generation!
“There were even some who had claimed that Gareth is destined to exceed Wycliffe’s capabilities and emerge as the succeeding Divine Swordmaster!”
“Gareth is a big deal back in Jalun and is seen as a hero by countless people there.”
“There are even some who regard Gareth as the strongest expert in the semi–divine realm and the most formidable swordsman in Jalun!”
“D–Does Ashton even stand a chance against Gareth?”
Their spirits plummeted as their earlier joy completely disappeared.
Gareth was the most dangerous of the three from the Jalunese Martial Association. His mere presence upon the deathmatch stage cast an overwhelming pressure that seemed beyond challenge.
“Ashton could probably go toe–to–toe with Gareth if he were at his peak, but he’s now critically wounded and has one foot in the grave. He would need a miracle if he wants to defeat Gareth!”
“Mr. Gray deserves a moment of respite. How can he be expected to carry on when his strength and spiritual energy are nearly spent? Those people are being completely underhanded!”
“You ought to know that rules are rules! Ashton can just surrender and be done with it if he doesn’t want to die!”
“That’s right! These fights over control of the criminal underworld in Javonbury have always been brutal and bloody! Ashton needs to face the harsh reality!”
It was then that Faye stepped forward and said, “You should step down for now, Ashton. I’ll handle this fight!”
Under the rules, Faye was allowed to substitute for Ashton, giving him a short window to recover. Ashton wouldn’t have to step back into the deathmatch stage until Faye was completely defeated.
Upon seeing Faye walk toward the deathmatch stage, everyone present was taken aback. They clearly hadn’t expected Faye to actually intervene in the fight.
Did she hold no fear for her own life? There were no guarantees on the deathmatch stage–especially against someone like Gareth, Wycliffe’s mentee. Faye was basically on a suicide mission for stepping onto the deathmatch stage.
“I’ve got this!” Ashton exclaimed, refusing Faye’s help.
He flashed her a grin and continued, “There’s no need for you to step in for a mere Jalunese bastard! I’ll crush him with my own hands! You just need to sit back and watch how your man wipes out this Jalunese bastard!”
Ashton laughed with total abandon. He was draped in his own blood, but he didn’t lose an ounce of his cocky, wild attitude.
