Chapter 8
Hearing Roxy’s words, Sylvia let out a cold laugh.
She was so furious on Ashton’s behalf that she couldn’t help but snap, “Are you even listening to yourself, Roxy! Your first love is in trouble, and you expect your ex–husband to clean up the mess for him? Do you think that’s a reasonable request to make? Do you even know what shame means?”
Roxy’s face burned hot. She couldn’t think of anything she could say to refute Sylvia, but she continued to glare at Ashton and growl, “Didn’t you hear what I said, Ashton?”
To her memory, Ashton had always obeyed her every word. He would never refuse her request.
“I heard you.”
“Well? Hurry up, then!”
Roxy was afraid that if things dragged on any longer, Calvin would be humiliated.
“Sorry. I meant I heard what you said. But I’m drinking right now. I don’t have time to deal with your mess, Ashton replied evenly.

Roxy froze, her expression turning nasty. “Why must you insist on picking on Calvin, Ashton? I already told you that he has nothing to do with the divorce. Why can’t you understand that? I never knew you were such a selfish and petty man!”
“Roxy! That’s your first love you’re talking about. How does he have anything to do with Ashton? How is Ashton obligated to save him? And furthermore, Calvin’s the one who tried to play the hero, only to end up being completely useless. He brought this upon himself!” Sylvia snapped coldly.
She couldn’t stand seeing Ashton being berated for no reason.
“Let’s go,” Ashton said with a shake of his head. He was no longer in the mood to continue drinking.
Sylvia took Ashton’s arm, and the two started heading off.
Roxy stomped her foot in frustration, her disappointment in Ashton growing.
“Roxy, save me…” Calvin begged.
He was terrified to see the gleam of the dagger flashing before his eyes. What if these people didn’t play by the rules and really tried to break his limbs?
Roxy frantically tried calling the people she knew, but the moment they heard Gene’s name, every single one claimed they couldn’t help. For the first time, she felt completely powerless.
“Mr. Larson!” Calvin called out to Gene. “You want someone to spend the night with you, right? Sylvia Langley over there is a gorgeous woman who’s perfect for you!
“And also, it was that man, Ashton Gray, who told me to hit your man. I never would’ve had the balls to do it if he hadn’t egged me on! He’s the one who had no respect for you, Mr. Larson!”
When Calvin saw Ashton and Sylvia walking past him, his expression contorted, and he began pointing fingers at Ashton. He wanted to drag Ashton down with him! If he had to suffer, he wasn’t going to let Ashton walk away unscathed either!
“Stop them!” Gene commanded.

When he glanced at Ashton and Sylvia, something about Ashton’s figure and name rang a bell, but he couldn’t quite place it.
Moe stepped forward and stuck an arm out to block Ashton and Sylvia’s path..
“What are you doing?” Sylvia questioned, her expression frosty.
Moe looked her up and down before smacking his lips, saying, “She’s indeed a knockout, boss! She’d be perfect. for you.”
The other men started hooting.
Sylvia’s eyes flashed coldly, but she quickly softened her expression and pressed her delicate body tighter against Ashton’s arm as she exclaimed, “I’m scared, Ashton…”
Ashton had a weary, helpless expression. He knew what Sylvia was capable of. This minor incident wouldn’t be enough to scare her.
“Wait a minute, you two.” Gene came over with a smile. Pointing at Calvin, he said to Ashton, “That guy says you’re the one who told him to hit my subordinate. Is that true?”
“Nope,” Ashton calmly replied.
“Don’t listen to his bullshit, Mr. Larson! He’s the one who told me to do it! If you don’t believe me, you can ask Roxy. He and Roxy used to be married!” Calvin cried out desperately, clutching at straws to save his hide.
“They used to be married?” Gene looked at Roxy and Calvin before taking in Ashton and Sylvia’s rather intimate
behavior.
What kind of messy relationships did these people have?
Turning to Roxy, Gene said, “Ms. Sloan, Mr. Emerson here claims that this man, Ashton Gray, put him up to it. Is that true? I’ll believe what you tell me.”
”
Roxy instinctively wanted to shake her head, but Calvin was already begging, “Don’t even think about hiding the truth, Roxy! Just be honest about what happened, or else, I’ll be the one who gets pinned with the blame. I don’t want to end up crippled! These people will stoop to anything!”
Calvin’s eyes had pooled with tears. Roxy couldn’t bear to see him like this. However, when she turned to Ashton, she was met with nothing but coldness in his gaze.
