Lawrence shook his head and said, “Terminus Cliff has already been sealed by a barrier. These people came prepared.”
When Ashton looked as if he were about to speak again, Lawrence interrupted him with a faint smile.
“I’ve lived long enough. Let me indulge myself with this once. In fact, this is exactly what I have been waiting for.”
His gaze turned deep and distant as he continued, “If I didn’t push these people to their limits step by step, how would they ever reveal themselves? Once I grow any older, I won’t be able to kill like I used to. Now is the right time.
“Don’t worry, Ashton. Everything is under my control. I’ve already prepared for everything.”
After saying this, Lawrence stepped forward and closed the distance with Thomas. Spreading the fingers of his left hand, he said calmly, “Maxwell is dead. It’s time for you to hand over the legendary
Sentinel Blade.”
Thomas‘ expression darkened. He had originally planned to let the wager die with Lawrence, assuming that once he was dead the contract would become meaningless. He had never expected Lawrence to demand the weapon at this very moment.
“The Sentinel Blade isn’t here. It’s kept at our headquarters,” Thomas said in a low voice.
Lawrence chuckled.
“Are you reluctant to part with it?” he asked, his eyes cold and unreadable. “That makes sense. The weapon is the symbol of your organization. If someone took it from you, what would that do to your reputation?”
Then, his tone sharpened. “But if I hadn’t known that you brought the Sentinel Blade with you today, why would I have made that wager with you? From this moment on, the weapon belongs to Ashton.”
Before Thomas could react, Lawrence moved. His body flashed forward with none of the frailty of age. With his five fingers spread wide, he lunged straight at Thomas, the oppressive force of his presence crashing down like a storm.
Thomas‘ expression changed drastically as he stepped back and formed a light barrier in front of him. To his utter shock, Lawrence’s outstretched fingers tore straight through the defensive light curtain.
Lawrence’s hand came down like a crushing mountain, compressing the surrounding air until it burst with thunderous pressure. In the next instant, his grip closed around the blade that Thomas had been guarding behind him.
“Damn it!”
Thomas’s eyes widened in fury. If Lawrence truly took the blade, it would be an unforgivable humiliation for the Empyrean Sentinel.

His fists clenched tightly, yet he could only grit his teeth in helpless anger. The wager between them had been sealed by a soul contract. If he interfered with Lawrence taking the weapon, he would suffer immediate backlash from the oath. Such a backlash would ruin their plan to destroy the Legion.
Drawing in a deep breath, Thomas ultimately chose not to act.
After seizing the Sentinel Blade, Lawrence immediately returned to Ashton’s side. With a casual motion, he tossed the weapon wrapped in white cloth into Ashton’s hands and said, “Take this as my gift for the day you ascend to the top of Javonbury.
“Now that you’re the King of Javonbury, how could you possibly be without a proper weapon? It’s just a pity that I probably won’t live to see you challenge the swordsmen from Jalun and cut down their Divine Swordmaster.”
Ashton caught the blade and felt his arms sink under its weight as though he were holding an entire
mountain.
Lawrence laughed heartily and said, “They say it weighs several tons. Even Thomas can’t treat it as his life–bound sword or draw out its true power, but this heavy blade suits you perfectly. When you swing it one day, that strike will carry the weight of Empyrean Sentinel itself. Just imagining it is exciting.”
Ashton wrapped his fingers around the blade’s hilt and tried to draw it, only to realize that even with his strength, he couldn’t pull it free.
“Don’t rush it,” Lawrence said quietly. “Every legendary blade must recognize its master before it can be used. Nurture your sword intent first. Give it a year or two, and you should be able to draw it.”
