Chapter 94
Despite the arrival of Eunice, Arlo, Nathan, and Oscar didn’t panic.
They made a living in the criminal underworld. Although they were wary of the local authorities and showed them some respect, they were also the least afraid of them. After all, the authorities had to abide by their laws and code of conduct.
They had nothing to fear, so long as they weren’t breaking any laws.
“Roxy, are these the ones extorting you?” Eunice asked as she eyed Arlo and the others coldly, her gaze full of contempt.
Being a legionnaire, she had no regard for people involved in the criminal underworld.
“You shouldn’t be speaking carelessly, miss,” Arlo remarked with a sneer. “We would never dare to extort someone in broad daylight! We’re just here as ordinary customers. Kindly avoid levelling false accusations at us!
“Do you think you have the right to frame the innocent just because you’re wearing the Legion’s battle robe? If I’m not mistaken, the Legion’s mission is to uphold justice and safeguard the nation, right?”
Frowning, Eunice snapped, “You’re not welcome here! Kindly leave at once. Also, you’re not allowed to set foot into this place again!”
“On what grounds?” Nathan questioned as he rose to his feet. “Is this not a place of business, Ms. Sloan? Are we not allowed to come here as paying customers? Don’t you think you’re being a bit too domineering, Ms. Sloan?”
“Watch it, all of you!” Eunice snarled, her expression icy. “We all know very well whether or not you people are actually here as paying customers. If you don’t leave now, don’t blame me for being rude!”
“Hah!” Oscar scoffed, completely unintimidated. “By all means, don’t show us any courtesy. Go ahead and arrest us, but pray tell what kind of crime you’ll be charging us with.”
“The crime of disturbing the peace! Isn’t that enough of a crime?” Eunice retorted.
“How have we disturbed the peace? Hey, guys, behave yourselves! We’re just going to stay in our seats and be quiet. We’re not going to cause any trouble!” Oscar barked.
“Yes, boss!”
A hundred men responded in unison before filling up the seats in Summit Lounge. They all sat there in silence.
Eunice’s expression turned stormy. These ruffians really weren’t easy to deal with.
Gritting her teeth, she demanded, “Did Ashton Gray tell you guys to come here?”
She was seething on the inside. Naturally, she couldn’t actually arrest these men. It went against the Legion’s code of conduct.
Plus, even if she did arrest them, it would only be a temporary solution. These men would double down and cause even more trouble once they were released.
The only way to resolve this issue for good was to tackle it at its root.
