At some point, without anyone noticing him, Lawrence had come up to Eunice. He was now looking at her with noticeable disappointment.

“M–Mr. Clark Senior!” Eunice sputtered out.

The moment she saw Lawrence, she trembled hard and became visibly flustered. He was the head of the Legion, and he’d just caught her right in the act of abusing her authority!

Why would Lawrence be here, at Evermore Club?

Eunice lowered her head, looking like an errant child.

The crowd, however, had no idea what was happening. To them, Lawrence looked like an ordinary old man, no different from any of their elderly neighbors.

“Hey, what do you think you’re doing, old man? Don’t you know it’s a crime to obstruct the Legion in the line of duty? Watch it, or you’ll get arrested, too!

“Hurry up and step aside, or else, don’t blame me for not showing you any mercy!” Calvin roared.

He’d been giddy with excitement as he eagerly waited to see Ashton being taken into custody. Thus, when he saw that someone–a sickly old man, no less–had stopped Eunice, he couldn’t resist flying off the handle. Just as he was about to roll up his sleeves and shove Lawrence aside, Eunice turned around in fury, her eyes bloodshot. She slapped him straight across the face, even knocking out one of his teeth.

As the broken tooth fell to the floor, Calvin howled in pain. The part of his face that sported the handprint had started swelling up, and blood dripped from his mouth. The pain and the humiliation tore through him.

He looked on in utter disbelief. Weren’t he and Eunice on the same side? Shouldn’t Ashton be the one who got beaten up?

Why was he the one who got slapped–and in front of both Roxy and Ashton at that? Why was he always the one. who ended up hurt?

“Roxy…”

Naturally, Calvin dared not lash out at Eunice. His only option was to turn to Roxy with a hurt, indignant. expression. He hoped that she would stand up for him.

Alas, all she did was tell him to step aside.

Roxy was no fool. She could clearly see how much respect Eunice had for Lawrence. In any case, Calvin was indeed the one who’d been rude first. Naturally, she wouldn’t get mad at Eunice for what she’d done.

“Apologize!” Lawrence instructed Eunice.

Eunice couldn’t believe what she’d heard, and her expression made that clear.

Meanwhile, Ashton was eyeing Lawrence warily. He kept a safe distance from Lawrence, ensuring that he could jump into battle mode at any given moment, if needed.

Something about Lawrence made him feel an overwhelming sense of danger. At the same time, he felt as though he’d been seen right through, all his secrets laid bare.

As for Eunice, he didn’t even bother paying any attention to her.

“Prepare a written self–reflection when you get back. You can go now,” Lawrence said as he waved Eunice off.

“Understood…”

Turning around, Eunice mumbled to Roxy somewhat remorsefully, “Sorry, Roxy, I won’t be able to help you out today. I just bumped into an elder of mine. I’ll help you teach that Ashton a proper lesson next time!”

Obviously, she didn’t think that Lawrence, the head of the Legion, would have any connection with a thug like Ashton. She figured she was just down on her luck and happened to bump into Lawrence.

“It’s fine. I’m the one who dragged you into this,” Roxy said.

“Let’s meet up some other time,” Eunice said before leaving and taking all of the police officers with her. Sighing, Roxy said to Calvin, “We should go, too.”

She knew it was going to be impossible to resolve Summit Lounge’s problem through Ashton.

Calvin couldn’t accept this. How did Ashton manage to slip off scot–free again? Why was he so damn lucky? “Hold on!” Ashton abruptly called out.

Roxy paused in her footsteps and watched as Ashton approached her. Once again, he felt like a stranger to her.
