His father? His family lineage?

As soon as Ashton heard Lawrence’s questions, he stiffened and looked straight into Lawrence’s deep eyes.

He had never seen his father before. Ever since he was born, Irene had raised him and Madison alone. Irene was always vague whenever she brought up his father. She simply said she’d saved him when he was gravely wounded, and the two ended up getting together.

However, after Irene gave birth to Ashton, his father left without a word, never to be heard from again.

To this day, Ashton hadn’t even seen a photo of his father before. All he knew was the man’s name, Cyril Gray. He’d hated Cyril all along for never fulfilling his duty as a father and a husband. It was Cyril’s fault that Irene had suffered so much all these years, forced to put up with a great deal of ill–treatment and mockery.

After becoming an adult, Ashton tried looking for Cyril. He wanted to find the man and confront him, to find out why he’d abandoned the family. However, he later found that perhaps even the name, Cyril Gray, had been a fake one.

Even though he’d searched through numerous records, he couldn’t find any information on a Cyril Gray. “You know my father?” Ashton asked as he steadied himself.

By now, he’d guessed that Lawrence was probably an important figure in the Legion and must’ve already looked into him.

Instead of answering that question, Lawrence asked, “Do you feel a kind of feverish heat that consumes you every time you have a breakthrough in your cultivation realm? Do you become more aggressive and unable to control your lust?”

“How did you know that?” Ashton questioned.

This time, he was truly thunderstruck.

This was one of his greatest secrets! It was precisely the reason why he couldn’t stop himself from sleeping with Melody.

“Why don’t we have a proper chat somewhere else?” Lawrence suggested with a smile.

“Where?”

“Follow me,” Lawrence said before heading out of Evermore Club.

“Mr. Gray, that’s no ordinary old man! I stand no chance against him,” Isaac warned quietly.

Patting Isaac on the shoulder, Ashton assured him, “It’s fine. I’ll be right back. Keep an eye on the place.”

Ashton went after Lawrence, who was right about one thing. He was indeed keen to know more about his background.

Back at Summit Lounge, Arlo, Nathan, and Oscar watched as Roxy returned. When they noticed that Eunice was no longer with her, they secretly exhaled in relief.

While they acted as though they didn’t fear her, there was no way they weren’t wary of the renowned Legion. “You’re back, Ms. Sloan? But I haven’t received any instructions to leave with my men,” Arlo commented with a smile.

“What should we do now, Roxy? This is all Ashton’s fault. Once I get the chance, I’ll make him pay for this!” Calvin swore, but he kept his head down.

He dared not offend these criminal bosses, who had blood on their hands.

Roxy frowned. Calvin’s words only served to rile her up even more. But soon, she put away all her emotions. Holding her head up high, she walked up to Arlo, Nathan, and Oscar and got straight to the point.

“I’ll give each of you three million dollars a month, gentlemen. That’s the best I can do. If that’s acceptable to you, then take the money and go. Don’t ever set foot into Summit Lounge again. But if you refuse to accept it…”

Her eyes flashed with steely determination as she continued in a grim tone, “Then, I guess we’ll just have to see who is left standing at the end!”

“Hah! Are you threatening us, Ms. Sloan?”

Arlo, Nathan, and Oscar stood up together and glared menacingly at Roxy, looking like ferocious beasts. The murderous air made Calvin break out in a cold sweat. His eyes swiftly darted around. The moment things went south, he was going to hightail it out of there!

However, Roxy showed no fear at all. “I’m sure the three of you are familiar with Summit Group’s financial standing. If we do end up in a falling–out here today, I will do whatever it takes to challenge you guys. As you know, money makes the world go round. Are you sure you can handle the consequences?”

“Don’t try to intimidate us, Ms. Sloan,” Arlo retorted coldly. “It goes without saying that we earned our place in Javonbury, too. If you truly wish to challenge us, it won’t be as easy as making a few sacrifices. Aren’t you worried about bringing about your own downfall?

Roxy’s tone became even more resolute as she replied, “It remains to be seen who will meet their downfall. As you’ve seen, I have the Legion backing me up. Apart from that, Summit Group has some influence in Javonbury as well.

“If I pull a few strings, I could very well find someone who can subdue all of you. That being said, I don’t want things to come to that, not unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
