On her way back, Remy called Conrad.
“Mr. Sullivan, Ms. Morgan seems to have returned to the Salisbury family estate.”
Conrad replied with a simple, “Got it,” and was about to end the call, but Remy rushed to add, “She was actually planning to come with me to see you for dinner.”
“What happened at the Salisbury family this time?” Conrad asked, sounding impatient.
“I overheard something. Apparently, the old lady woke up. Also, about the competition that forced Ms. Morgan to quit painting… It looks like she was involved in that too. We’re close to getting to the bottom of it. When the truth comes out, should we show Ms. Morgan the evidence?”
“Will she even believe it if we give it to her?” Conrad said. “She isn’t stupid. She’ll figure it out herself. Let’s set a trap for them…”
Meanwhile, Wiona rushed back to the Salisbury house, making the drive in just under an hour. As soon as she got out of the car, Jean was there waiting.
“Ma’am, you’re finally back,” Jean said, out of breath. “Come on, the old lady… she might not make it.”
Wiona’s face went white. “What did you say?”
She couldn’t run, but she hurried after Jean, her heart pounding with regret. Why hadn’t she visited Grandma Grace more?
When they reached the villa, Jace and Daniel were already at the bedside. The two men turned to look at her, their eyes cold and accusing, as if she’d committed some unforgivable crime.
Wiona’s steps felt heavy as she walked to the bed. She reached out, gently taking Grandma Grace’s thin, bony hand. Her voice shook. “Grandma?”
Grandma Grace slowly opened her eyes. When she saw Wiona, a weak but happy smile spread over her face.
“Wiona, you’re finally back…” she whispered. “Everyone else, please leave. I want to talk to Wiona alone.”
Daniel stood up. “Mom, don’t worry. The doctors are almost here. You’re going to be fine.”
Jace, still angry at Wiona, glared at her and warned, “If you upset Grandma again, I won’t let you off the hook.”
Wiona understood what he meant. He was scared she’d bring up what he and Alona had done to her. She ignored him and held Grandma Grace’s hand even tighter, feeling sadness wash over her.
Once the others left, Grandma Grace patted Wiona’s head softly. “Wiona, I just want to ask you one thing. Is there really no chance at all for you two?”
“These are my babies too, Grandma. Of course I’d protect them.”
The news clearly lifted Grandma Grace’s spirits. Color returned to her cheeks. It was obvious now that believing Wiona had lost the babies had nearly broken her.
Thankfully, the medical team arrived soon after, and together with Dr. Monroe, they managed to stabilize Grandma Grace.
By the time Wiona left the villa, she felt completely drained. Daniel was talking to the main doctor, and when he saw her, he started to walk over. Wiona didn’t want to face him. She was about to ask Jean for help, but Jace was even quicker, scooping her up in his arms.
“I’ll take you to your room,” he said, not giving her any chance to resist.
Daniel saw them together and didn’t follow. He just told a staff to make some calming tea for Wiona.
Once they were past the rose garden and out of sight, Wiona’s tone turned icy. “Put me down.”
Jace just gave a cold laugh. “Stop fighting it. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you kept the babies. You’re really something, Wiona.”
She looked up at him, her gaze sharp and cold. “Are you sure this babies are even yours?”
