Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 137

Trusting her gut, Wiona turned down the invitation. “Sorry, Mr. Sullivan. I already made lunch plans with a friend.”

She really wasn’t making it up. She had set up a meeting with Molly at the café.

Conrad didn’t push for a different answer. He just nodded and walked away, leaving as quickly as he’d arrived. Korey hurried to follow him, throwing Wiona a few odd looks over his shoulder. The way he kept glancing back made her feel even more on edge.

Wiona wasted no time. She headed off in the other direction, pulled out her phone, and called Dr. Cano.

“Hello? Did anyone spot you?”

He sounded so miserable, like he was about to cry. “Ms. Morgan, thank God it’s you... No, no one’s found me, but honestly, my life here is hell. There’s nothing to do, not even a hint of fun. It’s even duller than living in the middle of nowhere. Can I please come home?”

Wiona breathed a little easier. “Do you want to end up in jail?”

That shut him down right away. “No,” he sniffled.

Things were tough for him, but at least he still had some freedom.

“Just don’t let anyone find you,” Wiona said. “Until everything is truly over, don’t think about coming back. I’ll reach out when it’s safe.”

She hung up and felt some tension slip away. Maybe Conrad’s weird attitude had nothing to do with her secret. Maybe she was just being paranoid. After all, he hadn’t really asked any questions before leaving.

Still, Wiona didn’t want to overstay her welcome at his hotel. She went upstairs, packed her things, and despite the front desk trying to convince her to stay, she checked out and caught a cab to the café.

But as soon as she pulled up outside, her phone rang. It was Conrad. He acted like he didn’t even notice she’d left the hotel.

“Ms. Morgan,” he said evenly, “Alice had a sudden outburst and climbed onto the roof. If you’re able, could you please come to Hawthorne Hall right away?”

Wiona’s heart skipped a beat. “What happened exactly?”

“About twenty minutes ago, Mr. Salisbury showed up with six bodyguards, looking for someone. They tried to grab Molly right in the middle of her shift. She was wearing her uniform, so we just played it off like she’s a regular part-timer. Our staff stood their ground. Things got tense. He insisted Molly was part of the Salisbury family and accused her of helping you escape.”

“Molly was amazing. She cried, insisted she was innocent, acted like she didn’t know anything. She really sold it. Good thing you told me to hire people who can handle trouble. We weren’t scared. And since Molly never actually signed any contract with the Salisburys, they had no legal way to take her. Mr. Salisbury tried to look for you, too. He seemed pretty frustrated when he couldn’t find you.”

Wiona’s stomach dropped. Twenty minutes ago… that was exactly when she’d pulled up outside the café. She’d almost run right into Jace.

“How’s Molly now?” she asked.

“She says not to worry. She’s taking a few days off school and is staying at the café, so she’s safe for now. Boss, take care of yourself. If you don’t want to go back to the Salisburys, then don’t.”

Wiona ended the call, her hands trembling. The close call sent a chill through her, leaving her shaken.
