He needed to keep things under control, at least until he figured out the right time to tell her the truth. As for what to do about the kids, he wasn’t ready to decide yet. A Sullivan heir should never be born out of wedlock.
The next morning, Wiona opened her door and nearly tripped over Alice, who was sitting on a little stool right outside her room. The second Alice saw her, she lit up and almost launched herself into a hug.
“Wiona!”
Remy darted over and gently put herself between the two of them. “Miss, remember what I told you? Ms. Morgan has babies in her tummy, so you have to be careful. Gentle hugs only, okay? Nice and slow.”
Alice’s eyes got all red and shiny. She clutched the edge of her dress and glanced between Remy and Wiona, then dropped her gaze and stayed quiet. She looked so lost and small that Wiona’s heart just caved in.
“It’s alright. Want a hug?” Wiona opened her arms.
Alice’s face brightened and she rushed over, hugging Wiona softly this time, almost like she was afraid of breaking her.
Wiona gave her a little pat on the back, curiosity bubbling up. “So, what are you doing out here this early?”
Alice looked up quickly. “I slept too long last night and didn’t get a chance to apologize. I didn’t mean to push you yesterday. They said you have two babies in your tummy. Did I almost hurt them?” She sniffled. “I’m so useless.”
Wiona’s chest tightened. Alice was actually the aunt of the twins she was carrying, even if none of them would ever know the truth. She couldn’t help but want to treat Alice a little better.
Wiona settled into a new routine at Hawthorne Hall, officially moving in to keep Alice company. After that dinner together, Conrad hadn’t come back. Two whole days passed without a single glimpse of him, and the tension Wiona had been carrying around since that night finally started to ease. She found herself relaxing, even enjoying her time in the old house.
Meanwhile, things at the Salisbury estate were spiraling out of control after her sudden disappearance. The whole house felt upside down.
Then, a day later, Wiona’s phone rang. It was Mason.
“Boss, something big just happened at the Salisbury estate. Alona got stabbed by Daniel.”
