Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 154

After lunch, Wiona felt a sudden wave of exhaustion wash over her. She slipped away to her room, planning to take a quick nap.

The room was quiet and still. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she drifted into a deep, heavy sleep, barely aware of anything around her. She didn’t even notice when the door creaked open and someone stepped inside.

A tall, broad shadow hovered by her bed, staring at her face for a long moment.

“Mrs. Salisbury?” the man whispered. “Mrs. Salisbury?”

He called her name twice, but Wiona didn’t even flinch.

He reached into his pocket, pulled something out, and gently slipped her wrist from under the covers. There was a soft, almost secretive rustle. Then the object came into view—a syringe filled with a strange, clear liquid.

He pressed the needle against the vein in Wiona’s wrist, ready to push it in. Just as the tip was about to break her skin, Wiona’s eyes snapped open. “It’s you, Dr. Monroe,” she said, her voice calm and steady, like she wasn’t even surprised.

Dr. Monroe’s head jerked up. His eyes were wide with panic. “You… Damn it. You were just pretending to sleep?”

He started to tremble. His shock quickly turned to anger. He gripped her wrist harder, clearly desperate to finish what he’d started.

But he never got the chance.

Suddenly, someone lunged out from under the bed, yanking his leg and sending him crashing to the floor. At the same time, another figure burst out of the bathroom with a sharp shout.

Together, they moved fast. One clamped a hand over Dr. Monroe’s mouth, while the other pinned him down and tied him up tight.

Wiona sat up, stretching her arms above her head before looking at Molly and Mason. “Thanks. Toss him in the corner and then check on Marian, okay?”

Molly nodded and hurried out. She came back a moment later, looking worried. “Wiona, Marian’s passed out cold. I think he did it.”

That kind of pressure would force the culprit to act.

So Wiona had gone to bed right after lunch, making herself the perfect target. She knew if the person was desperate enough, they wouldn’t pass up the chance.

She’d also spent the morning wandering the grounds with Marian, checking out the paintings in the guest house, then lingering even longer at the main house. When she and the old lady weren’t at the villa, the only people around were the cleaning staff in the morning. Once cleaning was done, nobody stuck around. The old lady hated crowds.

Molly knew the staff routines. She and Mason had sneaked back in the same way Molly had slipped out before. They’d hidden in Wiona’s room, ready to spring the trap. That was the only reason they’d managed to catch Dr. Monroe. Wiona never could have done it alone.

Once she’d finally filled her empty stomach, Wiona got up and walked to the corner, reaching down to pull the fabric from Dr. Monroe’s mouth.

“Dr. Monroe. What a shame. It really was you.”

As she said it, her heart felt heavy. Now she was sure—Taylor’s painting, and Grandma Grace, were connected after all.
