Why was he here? Wiona frowned, watching Jace hurry toward her. She definitely hadn’t asked him to come. So what was he doing here? Worried he might mess things up, Wiona quickly spun around and slipped into the civil affairs office.
Jace saw her move and let out a low curse. “Damn it!” He rushed after her. “Stop right there!” But he was badly injured and couldn’t keep up with Wiona as she darted ahead.
“Are you seriously trying to kill me? Wiona, take one more step and I’ll tell the police you murdered Bianca!”
Wiona froze, turning to stare at him in disbelief. “Are you out of your mind? What does Bianca have to do with me?”
Jace pressed a hand to his chest, his face pale. He stumbled closer, every word sharp and desperate. “Bianca’s been missing since that night. The police haven’t found a trace. She’s just gone… nobody knows if she’s alive or dead. But I know you had something to do with it. You took her away that night. Then you set the fire, but I only saw you come out. Where was Bianca? Wiona, you know where she is, don’t you? If she’s dead, you’ll be involved. I’m giving you one last chance. Come back to me. If you don’t, I’ll go to the police and say you kidnapped Bianca. Even if you didn’t do it, you’ll be under investigation. You don’t want that, right?”
Wiona had to admit, she really didn’t want any trouble. So she walked back to him, but as soon as she got close, she raised her leg and kicked him hard.
Jace doubled over in pain. Wiona turned and hurried out of the office again. She rounded a corner and finally found herself alone.
She turned to leave, but Jace wasn’t about to let her walk away. He grabbed her wrist and yanked her back, pressing her against the wall. All the anger and darkness in him felt like a wild animal about to snap. His eyes were red with fury. “Wiona! This is all about Kellen, isn’t it? What do I have to say to make you believe you’re my only wife? Fine, I get it, everything before was my fault. I should have kept my distance from Kellen. I know I hurt you. I’m sorry. It’s all on me. From now on, I’ll do whatever you want. When I’m healed, we’ll finally be together for real. I’ll even sign something saying you’re the only Mrs. Salisbury, forever…”
He kept rambling, but Wiona just looked at him with pure disgust. “Enough. I’ve heard it all before. I’m so sick of your arrogance and your ego. Jace, how many times do I have to say it? We’re over. There’s nothing left between us. If you don’t move, don’t blame me for what happens.”
Jace just ignored her. He leaned in closer, eyes softening as if he was about to kiss her. “Wiona, can you stop fighting me? Please?”
