Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 299

Conrad’s voice cut through the air, cold and sharp, impossible to ignore. When he looked up at the Morgan men standing on the steps, his eyes were so icy and intense that it felt like the whole room just dropped a few degrees. Kyle and Cole both tensed up under that stare. Cole even took a step back without thinking.

“If you lay a hand on someone of mine,” Conrad said, his voice quiet but carrying a weight that pressed down on everyone, “you are declaring yourself my enemy.”

He didn’t wait for an answer. He reached out, gently pulling Wiona behind him, shielding her with his body. Then he glanced down at her, his features softening in a way that seemed impossible just a second ago.

“Don’t worry. I’m here now.”

And just like that, all the anger and danger in him seemed to melt away, replaced by a calm, steady warmth. Wiona felt her guard drop, the knot of fear in her chest finally loosening. She nodded, forcing out a small, shaky smile.

“I’m okay. I even managed to fight back,” she said, a hint of pride in her voice. Between a punch and a slap, she’d technically come out ahead.

She let out a slow breath. She’d made the right choice last night. After smashing the vase, she didn’t run straight out of the Morgan house. She’d been worried about Madison. But she also couldn’t just sit around, waiting for the Morgans to do something to her babies. So she took a chance, searching the house for anyone who might help.

She got lucky. She found the only person she could really trust there, the old gardener, Uncle Tim. He’d been mute his whole life, a quiet presence who’d watched her grow up. When she was little, she used to tell him stories in sign language, waving her hands around and making him laugh. They’d always been close, even if Kyle hadn’t liked it much. As she got older, they drifted apart, but last night, she found him again and borrowed his phone.

She knew he couldn’t answer calls, so she just sent Conrad a quick text, hoping that would be enough before she ran back to help Madison. Uncle Tim didn’t betray her. And Conrad, as always, came through. He had the whole place surrounded before sunrise. He even took down the Morgans’ front gate.

Seeing him walk in, Wiona felt a kind of relief she’d never experienced before. She realized she’d started to count on him, to see him as someone she could lean on no matter what. Somehow, she just knew he’d show up for her, even if the world was falling apart.

Without thinking, she reached out and grabbed a bit of his sleeve.

After a beat, Conrad spoke, his voice cool but impossible to ignore.

“A Morgan daughter?” He let out a dry, mocking laugh. “Funny. Didn’t your family announce two years ago that you had only one real daughter, the one you found? You threw Wiona away yourselves. I also heard you, Kyle, said that she should’ve been an orphan, that she was the reason your real sister suffered for more than twenty years in an orphanage. That Wiona owed you. Even when their birthdays fell on the same day, Wiona spent hers alone. All she got from your family was one word: unworthy. These are your own words, aren’t they, Mr. Morgan? So why are you trying to drag her back now? Is it because you suddenly see some value in her? Or is it guilt, some last scrap of family feeling, and now you want to keep controlling her life? Mr. Morgan, don’t make your family’s greed so obvious.”

Conrad’s words cut right to the heart of the matter, tearing away the Morgans’ carefully crafted lies. Jasmine, standing nearby, flushed with embarrassment. Cole looked away, too angry and ashamed to speak. Kyle went pale, panic flickering in his eyes as he glanced at Wiona, desperate to see if she believed any of it.

Wiona looked utterly shocked, but not for the reason Kyle thought. She already knew everything Conrad had just said. She’d heard it all herself, word for word. What stunned her was how Conrad knew all these secrets. Did one of Kyle’s friends tell him?

But the look on her face made Kyle think she was only hearing it now, and that scared him even more.
