Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 304

So his heart was racing just like hers. The pace was just as wild, maybe even faster. Wiona stared up at him, surprised to realize she wasn’t the only one feeling nervous. He was, too.

But you’d never know it from looking at him. How did he stay so calm? Even though his heart seemed ready to jump out of his chest, Conrad still looked as steady as ever, like they were just talking about work. This didn’t look like a proposal at all.

Proposal… The word made Wiona’s toes curl. Why had that popped into her mind? He had only suggested they get married. Did that even count as a proposal? It felt way too casual, way too sudden. Or maybe… was she secretly hoping for something more? Is that why the word “casual” bothered her so much?

Wiona shook her head, trying to push away the tangle of thoughts. She knew what he said made sense. Even if it was just for the kids, a marriage of convenience wasn’t out of the question. But she couldn’t say yes right away. Her marriage to Jace had left her scarred and terrified of the idea of marrying again. She’d just climbed out of one mess. Why would she rush to fall into another?

“Conrad, I think this is…”

Conrad realized he was pressing her too hard. When he saw her about to turn him down, he quickly interrupted. “Don’t answer me now.” He didn’t want to scare her off, so he softened a little. “I’ll give you three days. How about that? In three days, I’d like a real answer.”

Three days would give him time to get ready, too. It amazed Conrad how far he was willing to go for a girl, for love. He’d never had to swallow his pride before, but now he couldn’t bring himself to push her. All he could do was draw her in, bit by bit, until she stepped into his world on her own.

He glanced at the breakfast on the table. “You should get some breakfast. If you don’t, it’ll get cold.”

Right now, eating was a good excuse to break the tension. Without a word, Wiona grabbed a donut and stuffed it in her mouth, but it tasted like nothing. She was too distracted to even notice the flavor.

When they finally got back to Hawthorne Hall, Wiona didn’t let Conrad say a word. She clutched her stomach and hurried off down the hall.

“Ms. Mor…” Phil watched, stunned. He’d never seen a pregnant woman move so fast. Was he seeing things?

Conrad saw her bolt like a frightened rabbit and couldn’t help but smile. Still, after such a long and crazy morning, it was time to get back to work.

She let Shelly inside and learned that Conrad had told everyone not to disturb her. But after hours of silence, the staff had gotten worried and decided to check. Thankfully, she was just sleeping.

After Shelly reported to Phil that Wiona was fine, she helped set out the food. “If you’re not in the mood for this, the kitchen has your favorites kept warm. Just let us know if you want anything else, anytime.”

Wiona drank her soup, spoonful by spoonful. It was still rich and delicious. Clearly, they’d taken care to keep it just right for her.

Life at the Sullivan estate was so much better than anything she’d known with the Salisburys. Even when Grandma Grace was alive and knew Wiona was pregnant, the Salisburys had never treated her with this much care. Not even her own family had ever made her feel this important.

For the first time, Wiona felt special. She could feel how much Conrad cared.

After a moment, she hesitated and then asked quietly, “What’s Mr. Sullivan really like?”
