One moment, Wiona was fully invested in watching the scandalous video of Jace and Kellen. The next, the video disappeared. But it was too late. The news had already gone viral. In less than an hour, it was sitting at the top of the trending list.
Wiona clicked her tongue, clearly unimpressed. That scene really made her eyes sting. Right there in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, the two of them barely had any clothes left on. They were tangled up, totally exposed to anyone who happened to be watching. Kellen was practically pressed against the glass, her perfect figure squished out of shape. Jace’s face was on full display, too. Honestly, anyone on the internet could recognize them in a second.
What made it even weirder was the lighting. It looked like it was broad daylight. So Jace was busy, alright. Even with his injuries, he still had the energy for this kind of mess.
“Guess that beating wasn’t nearly enough,” she muttered. How else could he still be so energetic after everything?
Scrolling through the endless stream of nasty comments online, Wiona almost burst out laughing.
“This is so indecent. Doesn’t anyone care about these rich brats and their out-of-control lives anymore?”
“How does a video like this even end up online?”
“Wait, that’s not his wife, is it?”
“Pretty sure it isn’t. Mrs. Salisbury is way less plain-looking than this.”
“Ugh, cheating scumbag. Just go to hell already!”
“Cheating out in the open now? Does he have any shame left?”
“Rich heir? Please. Didn’t Salisbury Corporation just get delisted again? He’s the heir to a sinking ship.”
“Even if the family goes bankrupt, he’s still richer than any of us. The spare change in his pocket could keep us going for years. You think people with that much money don’t know how to protect themselves? Their assets are probably long gone by now.”
“Salisbury Corporation is always in the news for something wild. Wasn’t there a kidnapping and murder just days ago?”
“And now this trashy scandal. Are they trying to cover up the kidnapping?”
“Guys, the video’s gone, but someone took screenshots! Isn’t that girl his rumored first love?”
“It’s her! Wow, so it really is his one true love. That’s crazy.”
Just as she was trying to figure out why, Salisbury Corporation held an emergency press conference and dropped a bombshell: Jace Salisbury, the CEO, had been fired from the board for personal misconduct and was stepping down immediately.
Still, even with the quick announcement, the company’s stock couldn’t be saved. The market just crashed. Salisbury Corporation was already falling apart. Daniel, sick as he was, had been barely holding things together. Now, with Jace’s scandal hitting at the worst possible time, their rivals pounced. Salisbury Corporation was teetering right on the edge of total collapse.
Wiona was calmly reading the news when her phone rang. It was Molly.
“Wiona, Jace just took my dad!” Molly’s voice was shaky, almost in tears, panic clear in every word.
Wiona frowned. “Jace? What’s he trying to pull?” Just hearing his name made her tired.
Molly was crying now. “He left a note. He said he wants to see you. Wiona, what do I do? Should I get Mason to help me look for him?”
Wiona was exhausted. The past few days had worn her down, and the last thing she wanted was to be dragged into more drama with Jace. She wasn’t about to be manipulated, not when she had her kids to think about. Besides, if her memory was right, the nursing home where Adler was staying was now owned by Conrad.
“Don’t worry,” Wiona said quietly. “If he wants to use your dad to get to me, he’s not going to hurt him.”
