Wiona didn’t bother looking back after her sarcastic jab. With Nikolai and Drake flanking her, she strode straight into the hospital.
Kellen stood there, pale with anger, hands gesturing wildly as if she could claw the air.
“What did she just say?”
“How can she talk to me like that? Who is she to insult Jace?”
“Seriously, who does Wiona think she is?”
She was still fuming when Drake, who hadn’t gone far, turned and shot her a glare. Kellen clamped her mouth shut right away. For a second, she was actually scared. But then she caught herself. Why was she acting like this?
They were just bodyguards. Just two big, tough guys with scary faces. Why was she letting them intimidate her?
She was carrying a Salisbury heir, after all. Did she really need to be afraid of Wiona?
She was now carrying her own child. And Wiona was just a stand-in, just a tool, just someone who had played surrogate. Why should she feel guilty?
Kellen’s face twisted with anger. Still, she only dared to let out her frustration once Wiona and her bodyguards had disappeared from view. “What a stupid bitch. What’s she showing off for?”
“The divorce was barely finalized and she’s already surrounded by two hunks. Like she’s any better?”
Her words were so crude that Isaac, standing next to her, couldn’t help frowning.
Isaac’s eyes filled with contempt. Next to Wiona, who always held herself with such poise and had been raised with the best education, Kellen just seemed so... cheap.
Just look at Wiona. No matter what happened, she never lost her cool. She handled any situation with this calm confidence that was honestly impressive. She would never stoop to Kellen’s kind of cursing. Even her insults had class.
If Kellen wasn’t still useful, Isaac would feel disgusted just being near her. He honestly didn’t get what Jace ever saw in her. Giving up Wiona for Kellen? Unbelievable.
Isaac rolled his eyes in his mind, then started walking. “Come on. Don’t forget why we’re here.”
“This is your chance to prove yourself. Shouldn’t you be waiting outside the operating room?”
“And if Wiona isn’t here for my brother, we can figure out what she’s really doing at the hospital.”
He glanced at Kellen. “Didn’t you want to get rid of the baby she’s carrying? You can’t just wait for the perfect moment to drop into your lap. You have to make your own chances.”
Isaac brought up the topic on purpose, watching as Kellen’s expression turned dark and mean. He couldn’t help but smirk.
Women like her were so easy to control.
Bronwen immediately snapped, “What are you talking about? I’m not her mentor! I wouldn’t dare call myself that.”
She shot a look at Wiona. “Look at her now, always surrounded by bodyguards. I’m just someone who draw. Who am I to be her mentor?”
Wiona smiled, just a little. “You’re right, Mr. Ferguson. Bronwen and I broke ties a while ago. We don’t hsve anything to do with each other anymore.”
She took Summer’s hand and led her to sit down.
Nikolai and Drake stood behind them, their eyes sharp, never letting down their guard as they watched Wilson and Bronwen. They didn’t bother to hide their lack of respect.
Bronwen said she didn’t care, but when Wiona actually confirmed that, Bronwen’s fists clenched tight and anger flashed across her face. Still, she held it in, not wanting to make a scene in the hospital.
Wiona pretended to be scrolling on her phone, but she was actually texting Summer. [Don’t worry. Everything’s arranged here.]
[You didn’t let anything slip, right?]
Summer replied right away. [Don’t worry, you warned me in advance. I didn’t mention Dad might be waking up. I just said his condition got suddenly worse.]
[Wiona, do you think Wilson is suspicious?]
