Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 39

“It’s hard to say,” Jean admitted. “She took everything that happened yesterday without a single word of protest. That’s really not like her.”

Grandma Grace waved her hand. “Go tell Salisbury Bank to be careful. She can’t find anything out.”

Wiona’s electric car had already been brought back to the house. Molly had just gotten her driver’s license and eagerly volunteered to drive. On the way to the cafe, Molly leaned over and lowered her voice.

“Ma’am, last night Alona and Jace spent two hours whispering together in the study. That’s not normal. Usually, Alona isn’t allowed to be in there for that long. They locked all the doors and windows, too. Nobody could get inside, so I couldn’t hear what was said.”

Wiona stopped and thought for a second. “Wait. You mean Alona’s not allowed in the study?”

Molly nodded. “That’s right. In the Salisbury family, only Daniel and Jace can use the study. Even Grandma Grace almost never goes in.”

After getting married, Wiona barely spent any nights at the old house, so she’d never known about this rule.

“So Daniel must have allowed it last night,” she said quietly. Whatever they were discussing had to be important if he made an exception for Alona. But why would Daniel just approve it, then not join them himself?

Thinking about the way Alona and Jace had both been acting so out of character lately, Wiona felt sure they were hiding something, maybe even plotting together. What could be so serious to make them both change overnight? Suddenly, the answer flashed in her mind.

Grandma. It had to be about Grandma Grace.

With that hope in her heart, she felt a little lighter.

When they finally arrived, Molly’s eyes went wide. She’d had no idea the young mistress actually owned a cafe. And not just any cafe, but a five story building with some real presence. In fact, neither the Morgan family nor the Salisbury family knew anything about Wiona’s cafe. Not that they’d care about a little business like this anyway.

Originally, Wiona had planned to give the cafe to her brother Kyle as a thirtieth birthday present. She wanted him to have a place where he could relax, do business, and hide away from the world if he wanted. But right before his birthday, the truth about her background had been exposed. After that, the way Kyle looked at her was full of coldness and disgust. He’d said things she could never forgive. The gift never got delivered.

When Wiona finally left the Morgan family for good, she left behind a bank card with twenty million dollars on it, to repay them for raising her all those years. That was everything she’d saved and earned, with nothing left over except for this cafe. It was her one escape route, just in case she ever needed to start over.
