Now everything wa clear.
No matter how much Sophie tried to deny it, everyone could see she was knee-deep in today’s mess. Giana, who prided herself on her sharp mind and reputation for being clever, couldn’t believe she had been used as a pawn. She’d always been known as the smart one, the fox who could read anyone. Now, here she was, completely fooled.
Worse yet, Conrad’s men still wouldn’t let her go. She was trapped, and it was starting to humiliate her.
The truth was, they had all arrived much earlier than anyone realized. The whole group, intimidating and ready to storm the place, had frozen just outside the door when they heard the chaos inside. Mr. Sullivan had stood there for ages, listening. Clearly, his wife and mother didn’t need him to bail them out. They had everything handled on their own.
What really surprised Giana was Wiona. She wasn’t the useless socialite everyone thought she was. She spoke with reason, kept pressing Sophie, and almost forced her to reveal her true self. With Mrs. Sullivan backing her up, Sophie never stood a chance. Even if Conrad hadn’t shown up, the Simpson family wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near controlling Wiona today.
Conrad shot Peter a look. “Let her go.”
Giana was finally set free, but then Conrad said, “We’ll deal with the Simpson family later.”
He didn’t even look at Giana’s dark expression. Instead, he grabbed Wiona’s hand and led her into the courtyard.
His eyes landed right away on Nikolai and Drake, both lying unconscious on the ground. Peter and a couple of others rushed in, lifting the two men off the cold floor. Wiona quickly moved over and checked for their breathing. Thankfully, they were both still alive. But no matter how many times she called their names, neither of them responded. Their injuries were serious, there was no doubt.
