Madison saw the worry on everyone’s faces and rushed to explain, “No, no, it’s not an actual poison. You saw the video, right? It’s that aphrodisiac incense. The antidote Amaya made was full of musk. Thank goodness Wiona was careful and didn’t take it beforehand, or she would have lost the babies for sure. It would have been a disaster. She took the herbal remedy I gave her earlier, so that helped suppress some of the incense’s effects. I also gave her some acupuncture, but now I think the two scents mixed together and that’s what’s causing this problem.”
Madison’s voice trembled as she tried to make sense of it all. “Please, everyone, you have to help. Something’s really wrong with Wiona. You have to save her.” Tears were already blurring her vision. Wiona didn’t deserve any of this.
Amaya was horrible. And she still tried to claim Sophie had nothing to do with it. Anyone could tell Sophie was pulling the strings. Amaya could never have come up with something so cruel on her own. If Wiona hadn’t been so alert, she would have walked right into their trap. Madison wished she’d gone with Wiona to the warehouse. Leaving her to face all this alone was something she’d never forgive herself for. If anything worse had happened, she’d never let Amaya or Sophie off the hook.
Kaden put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry. The whole Simpson family is here. Nothing’s going to happen to her while we’re around.”
Bill nodded. “That’s right, Maddy. Don’t be afraid. We’ll save Ms. Morgan… I mean, Mrs. Salisbury.”
Steve spoke up, “Come on, Bill, don’t get confused. Whether or not she’s Mr. Sullivan’s wife doesn’t matter. It’s our responsibility to save her. We’re doctors. We can’t let a pregnant woman get hurt in our own home.”
Charles agreed, “Exactly. But since she is Conrad’s wife, we have to be extra careful. We can’t let anything bad happen to her here, especially since the incense came from our family. Look at the kind of disciple you took, Steve. Just think about how much trouble she’s caused.”
Amaya was Steve’s student, and now just mentioning her name made his blood pressure spike.
Tristan finally cut in. “Enough. There’s no point arguing about this now. From now on, all of you need to be more careful when you take on students. Character matters most. It’s better to be like Kaden and choose quality over quantity. Having a bunch of students isn’t worth it if one of them is gonna ruin our whole reputation. Now we’re even at risk of making an enemy out of the Sullivans. What’s done is done. Everyone get ready. Do your best. Giana, you’re the women’s health expert. Keep a close eye on things and make sure this girl stays safe. This is your chance to make things right with the Sullivan family. And Charles is right. Whether she’s Conrad’s wife or not, we have to give her our best. Remember what it means to be a doctor. Never forget why our family does this work.”
Just then, Conrad rushed in carrying Wiona. A bed was already set up for her. Tristan immediately moved to check her pulse on one side, while Giana took the other. Conrad sat at the head of the bed, gently wiping the sweat from Wiona’s forehead.
Wiona’s lips were bloodied from biting down so hard. She let out small, broken moans. But she wasn’t completely out of it. She knew people were treating her and kept looking up at Conrad.
