“I didn’t. You must’ve heard me wrong.”
Conrad came over and slipped his arms around Wiona’s waist, hugging her from behind.
“Wiona, lying isn’t good, you know.”
“Remember, you’re a mom now. If you lie, the babies will…”
He stopped mid-sentence, suddenly freezing.
Wiona’s eyes went wide with surprise.
“Did the babies just kick me?”
Excited, she grabbed Conrad’s hand and pressed it to her belly. “Here too. The babies kicked again.”
Conrad laughed softly, his voice warm. “Yeah, I felt it.”
“So, see? I was right. When you lie, the babies know.”
Wiona couldn’t help herself anymore.
She hurried to rinse her mouth and wash her face, then turned and wrapped her arms around Conrad’s neck, determined to show him just how good she was.
Her hand slid under his shirt, tracing his abs like she did yesterday.
“Was I like this yesterday?”
“Or maybe more like this?”
“You really called my kissing bad…”
“Conrad, I’m going to give you a kiss you’ll never forget.”
She pulled him close and deepened their kiss, pouring all her feelings into it…
Even when he was in the car later, Conrad was still lost in the memory.
He touched his lips, feeling a wild urge well up inside him.
He didn’t want this life abroad, the company, the deals, any of it.
He just wanted to get out of the car, run back, and hold the girl who meant everything to him, spending every single day tangled up with her.
But then…
“Mr. Sullivan, your meeting is about to start.”
Korey handed him a tablet.
The moment shattered as reality hit, leaving him a little disappointed.
Still, he shook his head and laughed quietly to himself.
So this was what it felt like to be completely bewitched.
“Alright, we got it,” Wiona said, waving off the messenger.
In her heart, she wondered why Amaya was so determined to protect Sophie. Did Sophie have something on her, or was there history there?
Wiona thought about digging deeper.
Annette suddenly spoke up. “Can’t we just let this go?”
Wiona looked over, surprised. “What?”
Annette kept her eyes on her plate, slowly eating. “I already punished Sophie. She’s suffered as much as Nikolai and Drake, don’t you think?”
“And you’re okay. Nothing really happened to you.”
“If anything had, Conrad would’ve made her pay for it.”
“Wiona, let’s just end it here.”
“You won’t find anything on Amaya.”
“Trust me, Sophie wouldn’t use someone unless she was sure they’d stay quiet.”
“Ending things now means everyone keeps a little dignity. If you keep pushing, I’ll never be able to go back to the Clements family.”
“What do you think?”
