After hanging up, Wiona tucked the invitation away.
The next morning, as soon as she opened her eyes, she spotted Jace’s marriage announcement blowing up on Twitter.
He really went public with it.
She couldn’t avoid it. The original post was everywhere. It read, After all this time, it’s still you. Only you. There was a heart emoji and he tagged Kellen. Underneath were two photos. The first was of two marriage certificates. The second showed two hands intertwined, each wearing a ring on the ring finger.
The ring on the woman’s hand was the exact one from the jewelry collection Wiona herself had designed.
She never thought things would turn out this ridiculously ironic.
For a second, Wiona wondered what kind of face Kellen would make if she ever found out that her ring came from her husband’s ex-wife. Would it feel like something stuck in her throat, impossible to swallow?
The thought flashed by and faded just as quickly. Honestly, she couldn’t bring herself to care anymore. It all felt pointless.
With nothing better to do, Wiona kept scrolling.
What she found next surprised her—almost all the comments under their announcement were vicious.
“Does anyone remember Kellen is the homewrecker here?”
“Right? Wasn’t that exposed just a few months ago? How did the mistress get promoted already?”
“Please, who could forget? The internet never forgets! I still have those scandalous pics of her.”
“Are you talking about the one where she’s pressed up against the glass? Got that one saved too!”
“Oh wow, I just checked again, that’s wild! Mr. Salisbury, your new wife’s body has been seen by everyone. You must be really open-minded to marry her. Respect, I guess.”
