Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 67

"Hold on. Wait for my signal," Wiona said quietly.

She ended Mason’s call and finally stepped out of the car, the black dress she wore catching the light as she walked. At the ballroom doors, she stopped for just a moment. Inside, Jace stood with Kellen, looking every bit the perfect host. They were surrounded by friends, laughter echoing through the room, everyone caught up in the excitement of the night.

But as soon as Wiona appeared, the mood shifted. Conversations trailed off, the laughter faded. Eyes turned her way.

“She really showed up,” someone near Kellen muttered, barely bothering to hide the sarcasm.

“It’s because of her that you had to move abroad. And now she has the nerve to come here, like nothing happened.”

“Right? You and Mr. Salisbury were the perfect couple in college. Everybody thought you’d get married after graduation. Who could have guessed…”

Kellen’s friends, both from regular backgrounds, stared at Wiona like she was the villain in their favorite drama.

Jace’s friends, at least, were more polite. They walked over, one after another. “Good to see you, Mrs. Salisbury.”

“We’re glad you could make it.”

Jace’s eyes landed on the gift in Wiona’s hand, and his expression tightened. “Why are you here? Who sent you an invitation?”

Kellen spoke up before anyone else could. “I did.”

She looked around, making sure everyone was listening. “Jace, please don’t get the wrong idea. And everyone, let’s not joke about this anymore. Now that Wiona’s here, it would make things really uncomfortable for me if you keep bringing up the past.”

Kellen turned to Wiona, her voice gentle, almost apologetic. “I thought today would be a good chance to clear up some old misunderstandings. That’s why I wanted you to come.”

“Thank you for accepting the invitation. I’m honestly relieved you’re here.”

“You can see, we’re all just old classmates. Whatever happened between Jace and me is ancient history. There’s nothing going on. He only kept me at Salisbury Corporation because he wanted to help out, that’s all.”

Then she walked straight into the ballroom, saying nothing more.

Her attitude rubbed people the wrong way. “She’s just the Morgan family’s fake heiress. I heard she’s actually an orphan. Seriously, what makes her so special?”

“If she didn’t act so aloof, how else could she keep up the image of Mrs. Salisbury?”

“Exactly. Look at Kellen. She’s gotten this far all on her own, just by working hard and relying on her own talent.”

Someone else jumped in, eager to flatter. “Hey, Kellen, I heard you’re opening your own gallery. That’s amazing.”

“You really are incredible.”

“Not like some people who built their whole life on a stolen identity and now have nothing going for them except being a housewife.”
