"But doesn't Mr. Sullivan's presence mean there is room for reconciliation?" someone murmured.
"The Thompson family went through all this trouble to host such a massive gala, and it is obviously all for Mr. Sullivan's benefit," another replied.
"If Sullivan Group doesn't ease up and let them off the hook, I doubt the Thompsons will ever have the chance to host another gala."
"The Thompsons really emptied their pockets for this one. They are clearly hoping to turn the tide tonight."
"Look, isn't that the long-lost granddaughter of the Blue family?"
"I heard their wedding is just around the corner, and rumor has it Ms. Morgan is actually the famous painter, W."
"They really are a stunning couple. Even their looks are a perfect match."
Wiona and Conrad instantly became the absolute center of attention, with whispers following them wherever they walked. Wiona had grown accustomed to the spectacle by now. As long as she kept a thick skin, she could easily pretend she was completely deaf to the gossip. Maintaining her poise, she held her wine glass and stood elegantly beside Conrad. People flocked toward them, greeting them with respectful, humble, and slightly sycophantic attitudes.
"Mr. Sullivan, I hear you and Ms. Morgan will be tying the knot soon. Congratulations!"
His ambiguous phrasing sent a ripple of shock through the surrounding crowd. Olive's face stiffened instantly, a fleeting shadow of absolute malice flashing in his eyes.
This damn man actually had the nerve to say he did not dare refuse. The Thompson family was the one groveling here! He made it sound as though they had threatened or coerced him. The Thompsons certainly wanted to, but they could not touch a single hair on his head. Was Conrad deliberately trying to push the Thompson family into a storm of public scrutiny? What a despicable tactic!
Still, Olive did not dare offend Conrad openly. He could only force a strained, awkward smile. "You must be joking, Mr. Sullivan. Our family is genuinely hoping to build a strong friendship with you."
Taking such a submissive stance was utterly humiliating, but Olive forced himself to swallow the boiling rage in his chest and sink even lower. He would let Conrad revel in his arrogance for now. The real show was yet to come. Even if the Thompson family had to sever their own limbs to survive, they would absolutely drag Conrad down into the abyss with them.
