**TITLE: Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 14**
Renee had never felt at ease in a bikini; it simply wasn’t her style. Today, however, she chose to embrace the sun in a deep yellow floral maxi dress that flowed gracefully around her. A straw hat perched atop her head, casting a gentle shadow over her face. Her pale skin seemed to radiate with an ethereal glow, presenting her as a picture of natural beauty and vitality.
In stark contrast, Kayla’s feelings toward Renee were anything but warm. The sight of Renee looking effortlessly stunning in whatever she wore only intensified Kayla’s simmering jealousy.
“Hey Renee, do you happen to know where Adam was last night?” Kayla lounged on a nearby chair, her smirk suggesting she had something to boast about. “I twisted my ankle yesterday, and he actually carried me to the clinic.”
Renee didn’t even bother to look in her direction. “So how did that end? Did he carry you to bed too?”
Kayla’s smirk widened, a glint of satisfaction in her eyes. “You’re sharp, Renee. Check this out.”
She raised her hand, revealing a conspicuous red mark on her neck. “Adam’s insatiable. He sure knows how to wear a girl out.”
This time, Renee removed her sunglasses, fixing Kayla with a piercing gaze. “Young, pretty, and full of tricks. And the best part? Totally free. Forget Adam. If I were a guy, I’d want you too. Who could resist someone so eager to jump into bed?”
The implication hung heavy in the air, as if she had branded Kayla with the label of a prostitute.
“What’s that supposed to mean?!” Kayla snapped, her fists clenched tightly in a mixture of anger and disbelief.
Renee rose from her seat, taking two deliberate steps forward, her cold eyes boring into Kayla’s. “What are you planning, Ms. Spencer? A fight?”
“Y-You…” Kayla stammered, her bravado faltering. She clearly yearned to retaliate but hesitated, knowing that crossing Adam might lead to dire consequences. “I’m not wasting my time with a shrew like you! I’m going to find Adam and play volleyball.”
With a haughty snort, Kayla turned on her heel and marched away, the sand crunching beneath her feet as she stomped off.
Not long after, Adam appeared, his presence a welcome distraction. He grabbed Renee’s hand, pulling her toward a group gathered for a game of volleyball.
After lunch, Renee decided to retreat to her room for a much-needed nap, while the men settled down to play cards, their laughter echoing in the air.
By three in the afternoon, Renee made her way to the dive club, eager to meet Harry Carter, the instructor she had booked through the app. Feeling a rush of excitement, she purchased a sleek wetsuit that hugged her figure snugly.
After a brief but informative lesson on deep diving safety, Harry led her to the beach, where the sun glistened on the water’s surface like a thousand diamonds.
“We’ll start in the shallow water to help you acclimate before heading to the deep end,” Harry explained as they walked toward the calm, inviting shallows.
Having some diving experience, Renee quickly adjusted to the cool embrace of the sea.
Half an hour later, they climbed back onto the shore to rest and check their gear, anticipation bubbling within her as they boarded a yacht that would take them to the deep-water zone.
Under a nearby coconut tree, Kayla removed her sunglasses, her eyes narrowing as she watched Renee and Harry enter the water. A cold, satisfied smile crept onto her lips.
“Renee, don’t say I didn’t warn you. This is all your doing!”
With that, Kayla turned and sauntered into a nearby shop, grabbing something at random before leaving without a backward glance.
Meanwhile, the yacht cruised smoothly toward the deep-water zone. After one final check of her gear, Renee took a deep breath, steeling herself before diving into the sea, Harry right behind her.
She concentrated on maintaining her composure, exhaling slowly as she sank deeper beneath the surface. Time lost all meaning as she descended, until she found herself enveloped in a dazzling underwater realm. Schools of colorful fish darted past her, and vibrant red coral shimmered enticingly beneath the waves.
But it was the orange and blue corals that truly captivated her.
She swam closer, signaling to Harry, who began capturing her underwater beauty with his camera.
Just then, a few other divers and instructors appeared, recognizing Harry and exchanging hand signals as they communicated effortlessly.
After a moment, Harry returned to Renee’s side, gesturing for her to follow him deeper into the surreal underwater landscape.
As they ventured farther, the water grew murkier, the light filtering through the surface dimming. It felt like mere moments had passed as they circled the coral reef, but suddenly, Renee realized the others had vanished from sight.
She let herself be swept away by the beauty surrounding her, attempting to relax and forget the troubles that had plagued her in recent days.
However, after a while, a sharp pain began to throb in her ears.
The light underwater dimmed further, rendering her nearly invisible behind the reef. That stranger clearly knew this area well; he likely understood that no one else would be around, which was why he had set the trap here.
At this point, the identity of her assailant was irrelevant.
What truly mattered was whether she would survive until tomorrow.
The pain was excruciating. Each inch of her skin screamed in agony, but it was her ears that hurt the most, throbbing with a sharp, piercing discomfort.
Renee feared that even if she survived this ordeal, she might be left deaf for the rest of her life.
Her breathing grew heavier, consuming her precious oxygen at an alarming rate. Memories flooded her mind, and suddenly, love felt like the most trivial thing in the world.
If she managed to escape this fate, she promised herself she would live a life filled with brightness and purpose.
But…
Who would come to save her?
Renee tried desperately to reach her ankle, to untie the rope, but she was too weak to move efficiently. She felt her strength slipping away, leaving her with no choice but to wait for death to claim her.
Her breathing became shallow, and her vision blurred. In a daze, she thought she saw a massive shark gliding toward her, its jaws wide open as if ready to consume her.
At that moment, the pain overwhelmed her, and she closed her eyes, succumbing to the darkness.
In her next life, she vowed to live simply, free from the complexities that had brought her here.
As her thoughts grew muddled, she felt herself being enveloped by the shark, swallowed into a void of darkness.
Was this death?
In the end, it appeared that death had claimed her.
