Divorced Dazzling and Desired novel Chapter 15

**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 15**

Yet again, Renee stirred from her slumber.

As her eyelids fluttered open, the sharp, sterile scent of hospital disinfectant assaulted her senses. It was a smell that was both familiar and unsettling, a reminder of the fragility of life.

A dull throb pulsed in her ear, and she could feel the refreshing coolness of the air around her. Instinctively, she inhaled deeply, but the sudden rush of air filled her lungs too quickly, causing her to cough violently.

A gentle voice broke through her haze. “You’re awake?”

Turning her head, she was met with the sight of a man lounging on a couch nearby. A wave of recognition washed over her—this was the very person who had pulled her from the depths of despair that fateful day.

“You’re the one who saved me?” she stammered, still grappling with the reality of her situation. “I… I actually didn’t die?”

Jasper, seemingly at ease, had one leg casually crossed over the other. “You were fortunate. I just happened to be there at the right moment, so I helped.”

He made it sound so effortless, but deep down, Renee understood that it was far from simple.

The ache in her ear persisted, but the relief of hearing his voice was a balm to her frayed nerves.

Thank heavens, she still had her hearing.

“How long have I been out?” she asked in a voice barely above a whisper, her gaze drifting to the IV drip that hung beside her bed like a lifeline.

“Just over two hours,” he replied, his tone calm and reassuring.

“Two hours? It’s been that long?” she murmured, her thoughts spiraling back to the harrowing moment when she was submerged, trapped beneath the water with no escape. The suffocating panic of that near-death experience clawed at her chest, making her heart race anew.

Her hand began to tremble involuntarily, and she squeezed her eyes shut, taking a slow, steady breath. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice trembling with gratitude.

But then, a sudden surge of emotion jolted her. Her eyes flew open, and the fear that had once gripped her was swiftly replaced by a fiery anger. She threw off the covers and sat up with determination, her heart pounding with a new purpose. Without a moment’s hesitation, she yanked the IV needle from her hand, the sharp sting barely registering amidst the whirlwind of her thoughts.

Jasper’s eyes widened as he noticed her frantic movements. He sat up straight, concern etched across his features. “What are you doing?”

Renee held her hand up, watching in disbelief as bright red blood trickled from the puncture wound. Her gaze hardened. “I’m going to kill someone!”

With that declaration, she stood up, slipped on her shoes with a sense of urgency, and strode purposefully out of the hospital room.

Kayla’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Renee, you—ah!”

Before she could finish her sentence, Renee’s hand connected with Kayla’s cheek in a sharp slap that echoed through the hallway.

But that wasn’t enough. Fueled by a surge of adrenaline, Renee seized Kayla’s hair, delivering a rapid succession of slaps that left her own hand stinging with each impact. The force behind her strikes was fierce, and the sound of flesh meeting flesh filled the air as Kayla cried out in agony.

Onlookers stood frozen, their mouths agape.

Those who knew Renee had always seen her as gentle and soft-spoken, never one to unleash her fury.

What they were witnessing now was something entirely different.

After a few tense seconds, Julian snapped back to reality, rushing forward to intervene. “Are you out of your mind? Why are you hitting my sister?!”

“Renee, what’s wrong? Please, don’t scare me like this!” Adam exclaimed, his voice laced with confusion and concern. He feared she had lost her grip on reality due to the trauma.

“Why are you attacking me for no reason? Even my mom never hit me!” Kayla wailed, burying her face in Julian’s chest, seeking refuge from the storm of Renee’s wrath. “Julian, she’s picking on me…”
