They heard Renee in a heated discussion with Abner when they entered the house.

"I don't understand. Why would you accuse Adrian of using Riley? They love each other," Abner said.

"I don't have to explain myself to you, Abner. I want my daughter out of this house!" Renee exclaimed.

It did not take them long to notice Riley and Adrian's presence. Already walking with a crane, Renee marched towards Riley and said, "We need to leave this house. You need to leave Adrian."

"Mom, I'm not understanding you," Riley said.

"I told you over the phone," Renee said through clenched jaws. "Adrian was not fully honest with you about his intentions."

"If this is about my father, Adrian has always been honest with me about it," Riley said, pulling her hand away.

"Riley, can't you see? Adrian knew who you were all along, who your father is, even before he reappeared in your life! He pursued you because of your father!" Renee insisted.

"How do you know that, Mom? Are you Adrian?" Riley could not help but raise her voice.

"Renee, please calm down," Adrian recommended. He glanced at his grandfather before returning his attention to Renee. "Let's talk about this properly."

"No!" Renee snapped at Adrian. "I kept Riley safe for many years, and you, Adrian, you delivered her to the devil! I had to learn from other people that Riley was nearly kidnapped!"

Renee trembled as she pointed a finger at Adrian. "You promised to protect Riley, not endanger her!"

"Apparently, you did not care. All you wanted was what you could get from your relationship with my daughter," Renee said. "You purposely canceled your engagement so you could be with the real heiress!"

"What in the god's name is going on?" Abner screamed. "Can someone explain to me what is happening? Who is Riley's father?"

"Yes, it's true. My life was recently in danger, and it might be even more so in the coming days, but does that mean we should keep hiding?" Riley asked. She recalled how they used to move from one town to another before high school, realizing that perhaps they had been running from her father's family all those years.

"Riley is right, Renee," Adrian said while he reached for Riley's hand on his shoulder. "If you are worried about yours and Riley's safety, I have hired men to protect you both, and we can add more measures to it."

"The only way to end this is to introduce Riley to Charles," Adrian suggested. "Have a DNA test to confirm it -"

"No!" Renee screamed again. "I will not have it! I will not allow it!"
