While Riley waited in the bridal car, her engagement ring entranced her. The delicate pink gem shimmered with brilliance. Each glint of light, like a tiny star, danced across its perfectly cut surfaces, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of radiance.
"The saturation is nice," Renee remarked. She sat with Riley throughout her journey from the Marriot Hotel to the Eternal Light Chapel of Halliport.
Riley smiled at her mother, who was familiar with a gem's quality. She said, "Yes, and its cut is beautiful. It's Adrian's mother's ring. His Dad gave it to us last night."
"I guess that's a good sign," Renee remarked.
"It is," Riley nodded. "Adrian and his father had not spoken to each other sincerely in years. Last night was a huge difference. I don't know what changed, but I'm happy for Adrian."
"I'm happy for both of you too," Renee said. "I hope my worries about his stepfamily are not a major concern."
The door to the bridal car opened. The wedding planner said, "It's time, Miss Allen. Shall we take Renee to her seat?"
Riley nodded. Another assistant helped Renee get into her wheelchair and brought her into the chapel. Riley could see Adrian waiting outside the chapel doors. She smiled, seeing him staring at the car, but she knew he couldn't see her through the tinted windows. Still, Adrian put his hand on his chest, letting her know how he felt that very moment.
They had not seen each other since the wedding preparation started at six in the morning. So, she missed him, and she knew Adrian probably did too.
Riley watched Adrian move his wheelchair into the chapel with Abner and Anthony. Tonet and Fredrick still attended, but according to Abner, they were warned not to cause trouble.
Soon, the chapel's double doors closed, which was Riley's cue to get ready. She had exited the car when she unknowingly turned to the driveway's entrance and saw a familiar vehicle!
"Oh, my god!" Riley went back inside the car, her heart racing. She had just seen Brian's car pull up by the gates!
Her brows drew together, wondering, "What is Brian doing here?"
Riley was concerned that Lucy Smith might have spilled the beans and that Brian was here to disturb her wedding.

Outside the chapel's gates, Brian pulled over and saw a security team member block his way.
They were there because his mother, Beatrice, had insisted they plan out his wedding with Claire. If it were up to Brian, he would wait to get married until his company's problems were solved, but Beatrice said it was shameful to have his child born before their marriage. It also made sense. His child should bear his last name.
"I think there is a wedding," Claire remarked. She was seated in the backseat, her eyes studying the chapel.
Brian looked past the security team and the luxury white Maybach ahead. The vehicle's hood had a beautifully arranged flower. Around it, people in formal wear eyed the surroundings, and one spoke to whoever was inside.
The entrance to the chapel had rows of pillars before it. Like the car, they were adorned with pink and white blooms. Clearly, a wedding was ongoing.
From within the parking area, several luxury cars were parked outside, and drivers in black suits and ties stood watch. There was a Lexus, a Rolls-Royce, an Audi, a Porsche, and a Range Rover. Brian had identified at least three other limited edition Maybachs.
"Wow, must be some bigshot," Beatrice remarked. "Go check it out, Brian. Ask them why we can't enter. We are just going to the office and inquire about a wedding slot."
"Um. Okay," Brian said, and he got out of the car. Before approaching the security guards, he stared back at the white Maybach, and suddenly, his heart became restless. He thought that the woman in white was familiar, and a big part of him wanted to see who it was.
Brian walked to the gate's entrance without thinking, his eyes fixed on the bridal car. Unfortunately, two men in black suits and dark shades stopped him. One man said, "This is an exclusive wedding. No one is allowed to enter without an invitation."
Recalling Adrian suddenly made Brian remember Riley. He gasped, recounting the times when Adrian King opposed him.
"Damn, Adrian. He was crazy about Riley," Brian muttered.
Despite being gone for a year, Adrian challenged his academic achievements by surpassing him. After graduating, Adrian also influenced his potential business partners to reject his ideas. Adrian did a lot more. What was his goal back then? Brian assumed Adrian wanted him to give up on Riley, but he never did.
Brian suddenly stilled by the side of his car. His mouth fell open as the memory of his last conversation with Adrian returned to him.
'Don't ever hurt her.' Adrian's warning echoed in his head.
Brian gulped, and he felt chills down his spine. He silently asked, 'How could I have forgotten?'
He suddenly coughed, and his chest tightened. He turned around and took many breaths. He was frightened of what Adrian King might do to him if the man ever found out about his divorce from Riley. After a while, he cursed, "Adrian, fuck you."
Brian glanced back at the white Maybach. The bride has yet to step out. Then, he shook his head, saying, "Adrian has probably forgotten. He has probably moved on."
"That's right." He convinced himself. After all, it had been four long years since Adrian had not bothered him and Riley. "He is with Leni Eros! He got himself a hot model."
Brian hopped back into the car, telling his mother, "We can come back next time. Or better yet, go to a different chapel."
As he drove away, he glanced at the rearview mirror and saw the bride from the Maybach finally walk up the stairs to the chapel doors. He only saw her back view, and with her veil down, he couldn't see clearly who the woman was.
In any case, Adrian had a stepbrother. It could also not be... Adrian's wedding.
