Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 117

Daisy’s sharp words hit Camilla out of nowhere, like a thunderclap that left her entire world suddenly silent.

It wasn’t just Camilla who froze. The bustling restaurant seemed to hush too, the chatter fading as people turned to stare, eyes full of curiosity and confusion.

Barnard’s face twisted with shock and anger. He locked his gaze on Daisy, but before he could get a word out, Davina stormed over and slapped Daisy so hard the sound rang through the room. “What ridiculous nonsense are you saying? How could Jasper not be Barnard’s son? If you run your mouth one more time, I swear I’ll— Just get over here.”

The slap sent Daisy stumbling to the floor. Davina didn't give her a chance to recover; she grabbed her by the arm and started dragging her away, showing no sign of regret.

But Daisy was defiant. She pulled back, her voice even shriller as she kept shouting, “All you ever do is hit me! What did I say that’s wrong? Barnard likes you, not them! Jasper’s not even his real kid, he—”

Before Daisy could finish, Davina slapped her again. This time, with Daisy still catching her breath, Davina clamped a hand over her mouth and turned to Camilla, her face flushed with embarrassment and panic. “Camilla, don’t take her seriously. She’s just a kid, has no idea what she’s talking about. She probably watched something crazy on TV that scrambled her brain. I’ll take her to the doctor and get her checked out.”

“Hold on,” Camilla said as she stood up, moving toward Davina. “Now I’m curious. What did Daisy mean, Barnard loves you? Davina, I trusted you. I let you stay at our house to look after Barnard. Are you two hiding something from me?”

Camilla’s eyes found Daisy’s face. Her mind was in chaos, but she was doing her best to appear calm. She couldn’t believe a child would just make up something so outrageous for no reason at all. If Daisy hadn’t overheard something, why would she accuse Jasper of not being Barnard’s son? And the way Daisy looked right now, stubborn and refusing to back down, didn’t seem like some random, childish outburst.

“How could you even think that? Camilla, you’re taking a kid’s babbling too seriously,” Barnard jumped in. “You’re beautiful, young, and talented. Everyone envies me for marrying you. Why would I ever look at anyone else? Davina’s much older than me, old enough to be my mother, and she has a child. She doesn’t come close to you, not in any way. I’d never be involved with her, it makes no sense.”

Barnard seemed desperate, his tone pleading as he tried to prove himself. He didn’t bother to spare Davina’s feelings either. With every mention of her age and the way he sounded almost disgusted, Davina’s face lost even more color.

Seeing the anger written all over Camilla’s face, Barnard snapped, “Enough. Davina, I took you and your daughter in out of respect for our history, not so you could let her stir up trouble with my wife. Why are you still standing there? Get her out right now. If this ever happens again, I won’t let you stay another minute.”

He’d never spoken to Davina like that before, especially not in public and right in front of Camilla. It was clear these were anything but empty words.

Davina looked stunned, but hurried to apologize. “I’m sorry. I should have kept a closer eye on her. I’ll take her outside right now. Camilla, please, don’t take any of this to heart. She must have picked it up from some ridiculous TV show. It can’t be real.”

Not daring to wait another second, Davina scooped Daisy up and rushed out, ignoring her protests.

Barnard turned to look at Camilla. “Camilla, I can’t believe Davina could be so careless, or that she’d let a kid talk like that. It’s just… embarrassing.”
