Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 162

She noticed security crowding around the hospital room entrance, shot Davina one last poisonous look, and stormed off, still fuming.

Davina sighed and turned to Barnard. “Let’s just give Daisy back to the Green family. She’s their child after all. I care about her, but I really can’t handle any more trouble.”

A classic move to take a step back, hoping things might turn in her favor.

Camilla took in Davina’s miserable face and spoke up, “Oh come on, Davina. If you’d cared this much about the bigger picture before, maybe none of this would’ve happened. If Daisy had just stayed with the Green family, that would have been it. But now? You took her away, brought her here, and then want to send her back? Her parents are probably going to be angry with her, and little Daisy is the one stuck in the middle, dealing with all the mess adults made. Poor kid.”

Camilla could tell Davina just wanted Daisy gone. And honestly, there was no way she’d let Davina have it that easy.

Divorce was off the table for now, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t make things hell for Barnard or be a pain for Davina. The more chaos these two kicked up, the guiltier the Carter family would feel toward her, and Calvin would just keep going out of his way to please her.

Her marriage was already an empty shell, so why not use it to her advantage? If there was already a fire, she had no problem tossing in more kindling.

Just as Camilla finished, Barnard’s expression hardened. “No way. I’m not letting Daisy go back. Davina, don’t worry. I’ll fight for Daisy’s custody for you.”

Davina’s face went pale. “Barnard, seriously, let’s drop it. Daisy is the only child of the Greens. They won’t mistreat her. Please, just don’t get involved anymore.”

Barnard shook his head, stubborn as ever. “No, Davina. I brought her back to you. I’m not handing her over again.”

That’s when Calvin walked in. He caught Barnard’s bold promise to Davina and went red with anger, his breath catching so hard he almost passed out.

“You idiot! How much chaos do you have to cause before you finally let me have some peace?” Calvin barked.

Barnard barely looked at him. “Dad, why are you here? I’ve got this. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“Oh, you’ve got this? You mean pushing your wife aside while you make these dramatic promises to someone else? Do you even realize how many people on the board are waiting for you to screw up? You’re tangled up in this affair, letting everyone watch you make a fool of yourself. Is wrecking the family your goal now?” Calvin was boiling.

The hospital corridor felt eerily silent and heavy, the kind of silence that pressed down on you. Calvin turned to her, his tone softer. “You’ve been through a lot again today. But I need you to remember how important family is. Please, don’t talk to anyone about what happened.”

“Of course, Dad. If that’s what you ask, I’ll keep quiet.” Camilla kept her voice gentle. “But you saw what happened. Barnard and I may be married on paper, but he doesn’t care about me anymore. He takes care of that woman right in front of me. How am I supposed to pretend everything’s fine? I don’t think I can keep pretending to be the perfect couple on my own, or fool the board, either. I’m not coming back to the hospital anymore.”

Barnard just left her tired and fed up.

At least now, maybe Calvin would finally drop any hope of patching things up between her and Barnard.

Calvin looked doubtful, so she quickly reassured him. “Don’t worry, Dad. I haven’t forgotten what you told me before. Business matters more than love. I’ll keep playing my part as Mrs. Carter.”

Calvin finally nodded. “Good. I’m glad to hear that. You’re still in charge of BLC. I’ll have a new contract drawn up. Sixty percent of the profits will go to you.”
