Camilla didn’t hold back at all. She gripped Davina so hard that it was clear she wasn’t interested in mercy.
Blood was trickling down Davina’s forehead, painting her face with streaks that made her look messy and wrecked. Daisy just shrieked and froze, too scared to move, mumbling, “You’re crazy. I’m calling Barnard. He won’t let you get away with this.”
Camilla wasn’t interested in Daisy’s threats. She glanced at her bodyguard and said, “Go search for any bank cards or luxury stuff here. Take pictures of everything.”
She wasn’t going to waste another minute on Barnard. As soon as she finished with Davina, Camilla was heading straight to court for a divorce.
Whatever luxury gifts Barnard gave Davina, she figured the transactions would show up in his accounts anyway.
“No, stop! Those are my things, you can’t take them!” Davina’s face twisted in panic. She squirmed, trying desperately to break free, but Camilla’s grip was solid, her hand locked firmly on the back of Davina’s neck.
Seeing Davina panic just confirmed that she must have rushed to move everything she cared about to Afterglow.
The bodyguards ignored Davina’s protests and were already searching the bedroom.
The whole apartment rang with Davina’s screams. “Camilla, aren’t you scared of Barnard coming after you when he finds out? Don’t forget, your mom still needs his medical team. Something could happen to her, you know?”
Camilla let out a soft laugh. “Looks like you know more than I thought. So this was your ace in the hole when you exposed everything online?”
Of course Barnard would teach her all the dirty tricks, all the ways to play games and threaten. He’d clearly been training her from day one.
The realization sent hot anger rushing through Camilla, paired with a sting deep in her chest. So this was the man she’d chosen so carefully. From the very start, he’d never been on her side. Everything he did was methodical, all part of a plan to keep her in line. The irony was almost funny.
“You have nothing. You only got into this world because of Barnard. Think it through, Camilla. I’m pregnant with his child. If anything happens to me, what about your mother?”
Camilla cut her off and said, “You’re out of touch. My mom doesn’t need the Carter family’s team anymore. And you? No one in the Carter family is dying for this baby except Barnard. So, your leverage isn’t as strong as you think.”
As she spoke, Camilla pushed Davina’s head down and slammed it against the table.
He needed to calm her down.
Barnard moved closer. “Let’s talk, Camilla. This doesn’t have to end like this. I can go public, admit it was a misunderstanding. Jasper is always going to be my son. Wouldn’t that solve everything?”
Camilla gave him a look of disbelief. “You really think I can’t survive without you or the Carter family? We’ve reached the end. I can finally walk away. Why should I keep up this charade for you?”
Barnard replied, “Camilla, you have to realize divorcing now will hurt you too. You’re smart. You should think about what’s best for you before making a move. If you divorce at this point, people will just assume something’s wrong with Jasper’s parentage. Do you really want him to carry that kind of stigma?”
Camilla just shook her head and said, “Barnard, do you honestly think I came here without a backup plan? Want to know what I have?”
She took her phone out, pressed play, and the sound of Barnard’s triumphant voice filled the room.
“Camilla, just picture it. If people found out you’d been assaulted and had someone else’s child, and I was the boyfriend who stood by you, married you, and took care of you and your son… can you imagine the headlines?”
