Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 220

If everything went according to plan, he’d finally get the chance to have a child with her. And when that happened, Camilla would have no choice but to play the part of Mrs. Carter again, no matter what. She would stay for their child.

Davina, though… He had liked her for years, that was true. But now he saw it clearly. Davina just didn’t have what it took to be Mrs. Carter. He could give her a good life, make sure she’d never want for anything. That way, he’d be repaying the kindness she showed him when they were kids.

Barnard’s plans felt almost perfect. He was about to comfort Davina a little more when she blurted out, “Barnard, you don’t have to listen to her. I already called the police. What happened to our baby, that’s her fault, and that’s the truth. When the police come, they’ll get us justice. Everything she took from you, I’ll make sure you get it all back.”

She said it so fiercely, almost pounding her chest in front of him with determination.

Davina didn’t even notice everyone else’s faces, staring in complete shock. Everyone except Camilla. Barnard’s reaction was instant. He pushed Davina back and demanded, “You called the police? When did you do that?”

Davina answered, “Right before I came out here. She hurt our baby, so why shouldn’t I call the police? Barnard, why are you so upset?”

How could he not be? This whole story that Camilla had hurt their child was just an excuse they’d made up for themselves. He never thought Davina would actually believe it, let alone get the police involved.

And the moment the police showed up, the drugging from last night would almost definitely come out. Besides, Davina’s call log had no recording. It proved nothing.

She hadn’t called the police to target Camilla. She was dragging the whole Carter family into this.

Calvin might not know all the details, but even he understood that once the police got involved, the story would just blow up again. He was shaking with anger, pointing at Davina. “Are you crazy? You absolute fool. Who told you to call the police? Call them right now. Tell them we’ve sorted everything out privately and they don’t need to come.”

But then police sirens cut through the air outside. The sound of hurried footsteps soon followed as officers stepped onto the deck.

Trying to keep it together, Calvin forced a smile. “Chief Mahoney, it’s all just a misunderstanding. These women are so dramatic, always blowing things out of proportion. There’s really nothing that serious. We can handle…"

Camilla stepped in, her tone breezy and perfectly calm. “Since Chief Mahoney’s already here, let’s not waste his time. As for the rest, maybe your family doesn’t need any help from him, but I have something I’d like Chief Mahoney to take care of. I’d like him to clear my name.”

She ignored Barnard’s guilty look and Calvin’s fury, turning directly to Mahoney. “Chief Mahoney, I’d like you to check this whole room very carefully. I suspect there are traces of some kind of drug, probably an aphrodisiac. Yesterday, I was invited to the party. Barnard’s friend drugged me and brought me here. I started feeling strange and barely managed to escape. Then this morning, I found out they’d made a scene in this room, lost their baby, and decided to blame me for everything. If you don’t believe me, you can have someone test me. There should still be traces of the drug in my system. The server who brought me here is still somewhere on the ship too. All they have as evidence is a call log, but with your help, I’m sure you can get the actual call recording. Please investigate everything and clear my name.”

Camilla laid everything out, calm and clear, pointing to every detail and clue she could offer.

Davina was frozen, mind spinning, completely thrown. Wasn’t she the one who called the police? How had Camilla managed to turn this around and make it work in her favor?
