Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 254

Dahlia pressed her lips together, holding onto Camilla even tighter. "I... My assistant told me Pamela came back, and she's been making trouble for you. Then Neal and some others showed up at my place. They said if I agreed to meet with Pamela, she'd leave your project alone. I wanted to reach out to you, but Neal told me he still had those photos and hadn't gotten rid of them. He said if I didn’t cooperate, your company would collapse, and I'd be ruined too. So I..."

"Camilla, I’m sorry. This is all because of me. I had already decided… The moment I saw Pamela, I was going to end it all. If she had a life on her hands, she wouldn’t have time to go after you anymore."

Dahlia’s voice sounded almost weightless, and there was a hopeless emptiness in her dark eyes. Camilla’s heart was pounding in fear, and she wrapped her arms around Dahlia, tighter than before.

After Dahlia’s depression years ago, she’d always been prone to hurting herself, sometimes even thinking about ending her own life. Only recently had she started to get better, and now Pamela had pushed her back to that dark place all over again.

A sharp anger sparked in Camilla’s eyes.

She gently stroked Dahlia’s back. "Dahlia, don’t say things like that. There’s nobody worth dying for, you hear me? And as for those people, don’t worry. I promise, this time, I’ll make sure they answer for everything they’ve done to you."

Out of Dahlia's sight, Camilla’s gaze turned ice-cold.

Her assistant...

Camilla remembered meeting Dahlia's assistant a few times—a lively, sweet girl the same age as them. Dahlia never treated her like an employee, more like a friend. Whenever they went out, Dahlia would always bring back a little something for her.

But now, all of that seemed so far away.

Camilla had felt uneasy when she got a call from that assistant earlier today, and now, hearing Dahlia bring her up again, that nagging suspicion settled into a harsh truth.

After comforting Dahlia, Camilla stepped out of the room and called Mahoney right away, telling him to bring the assistant in for questioning. She needed answers, no matter who had betrayed Dahlia or why.

Mahoney got back to her quickly with news.

Turns out, Dahlia's assistant really had been paid off by Pamela. She’d given away Dahlia’s whereabouts and even spread those rumors about Camilla on purpose.

Mahoney invited Camilla to the station to watch the interrogation herself.

Camilla made sure a nurse was looking after Dahlia. As she left the hospital, a man in a sharp suit, looking every bit the polite butler, appeared in her way.

If Darwin came looking for her now, he must have already found out everything he wanted to know. Camilla kept her answers professional. "Lance has shared his feelings with me, so I suppose you could say that. But—"

"Then I’m talking to the right person. Camilla, from what I’ve heard, you’re still married, and you even have a son. Do you really think, with your background, you’re suitable for someone from our Charles family?"

He didn’t finish. Suddenly, the door slammed open with a loud bang. Lance charged in, looking furious, putting himself between Camilla and his grandfather in an instant.

He shot Darwin a hard look. "I don’t see what you need to discuss with her privately. You can go now."

Darwin’s face turned red with anger. "You disrespectful brat! She wants to become part of the Charles family. Don’t I, as her elder, have the right to ask about her situation?"

"You already know everything about her. What’s the point in dragging this out? Or are you trying to use your so-called wisdom to pressure her? Sorry to disappoint you, Grandpa, but that won’t work. Let’s get one thing straight. The only reason any of this is happening is because I won’t leave her alone. Even when I confessed, she hasn’t agreed. If you have a problem, take it up with me, not her."

Lance didn’t budge. He leaned against the table, eyes full of challenge as he faced Darwin.
